Are you using the usb port?

If so, then no, it won't drain the battery on the car. That port shuts off when you turn off the car. (So, your iPod will not charge when the car is not running.)

No, it will be just like if you unplug it from the wall while the cable is still plugged into the ipod. The battery on the ipod will continue to drain slightly over the night until you start the car again.

I have an extra ipod, I just leave it plugged in all the time. No worries.

Even if you leave it plugged into the cigarette lighter by the gearshift (and I'm assuming inside the console), it shuts off when you turn the car off too. Either way, you're fine.
