Keep fighting the good fight. I'm still waiting for a good fix before I bring it in for the first time, until then, I'll live with the rub marks. I sure do wish I could get it taken care of between now and March when she will be back on the road full time.

Five days after the second time the 5th bow was replaced and about 6 top cycles after I picked up the car, the top has failed for the third time. This time I spent some time inspecting it and taking pictures. Found that the brackets on the 5th bow rest on a plastic cover and wear grooves in them. Also the lower end of the rear window seal hooks on the top stiffener in that area and gets pulled out of the channel it is mounted to. The seal being pulled out of place when the top is retracted probably explains why I have been having a lot more wind and road noise since the first top failure.

I don't have a server to upload the photos to or I would. Put together a letter to GM with the photos that I will send off to the tomorrow when I call and get an email address.

I hope I can get someone's attention this time. At this rate they will own this car again in a couple of weeks.

John

It's said that you guys can't enjoy your freaking Camaros :/ and there is no excuse for poor engineering.

I enjoy my camaro vert everyday I drive it. And at 20k in just under a year that's a lot of enjoyment. I just didn't enjoy my coupe as much and that's why I have the vert. Don't listen to everything you hear.
Most of what is here is sharing of experiences so if the top problem occurs you can be educated. I'm sure it's the same in the other parts of the forum.

Same here, I'm at about 13k and wouldn't trade any one of those for anything!

+2. After my original top was replaced I did the bracket moving and trimming steps so that really helped on the 2nd top. I'll do SUX's 3rd fix when my ride comes out of winter hibernation to get rid of the ever so slight rub I have.

OK, so here is my question: Why can't the so called engineers at GM do what a Camaro5 member did? Where does GM get its engineers, the local prison farm?

Did my first top down driving today with the new girl. Only 14 miles round trip, but after careful inspection .. not a sign of rub marks... I'll keep you all posted.

The engineers can not think on their own the computer did all the testing and design for them. I saw the replacement 5th bow that did not even last 1 day on Saturday. What a joke! It is no wonder why it is bending, the bracket is a flat bar with 2' of leverage behind it. There should have been a right angle built into it for strength. Anyone who has ever worked with steel or metal of any kind knows that a right angle in the same plane as the load will increase rigitity of the part.

That's all right. The engineers at GM never even heard the word.

Just to keep you all updated, the first of the fixes are apparently starting to be released ! Got off a conference call with GM and my dealership. The water management system problem that came about from my top replacement now has another fix. The parts and details are on the way to the dealership. Instead of trying this on my car, the dealership is first doing the fix to a stock vert on the lot that I told them had the same problem mine did ! I am happy they are going to experiment with the install on that one instead of mine. A second set of part are coming and should be here in a week for my car.
I am glad one of the fixes is in but this doesn't address the top mechanics. I asked when the top mechanics fix was going to be ready and I was told again by the GM rep there was a fix being worked. (maybe they are documenting sux fix ?)
Well I'll get feedback on the water management fix later this week and post anything I find out.
Just wondering if SUX actual is working for GM ? (only kidding sux)
