I don't know......seems like a WHOLE LOT of PITA for a spoiler. There are other very similar spoilers that aren't so involved

why couldn't you just cut the two center studs off and call it a day..I wouldn't want to fill and drill holes in my trunk lid but I do like the spoiler..The 4 studs left should hold it fine. Maybe a section of the super adhesive 3m tape in the center.. It's not like the spoiler needs a lot to hold it

I'd love to make it a direct fit, but I'll have to wait until we get our hands on it to see if we can move the mounting solution.

That's a pretty good idea.

You couldn't convince me to put a spoiler on my car that was ONLY held on by 3M tape, but in that center area, that might be a great solution.

As an aside, I also own a 98 Cobra with a Saleen S281 Spoiler on it. The early designs came with a 4 bolt setup that used the stock locations. The later designs, which I have, removed two studs and replaced it with 3M tape.

So far, no problems, since we have a 2 post mechanical solution, as well as the adhesive.

When I get some extra cash I am going to pick one up, fit it to the car then send it off for paint.. the only reason I would even put the tape there is to control the wind that may get under it..if you look close at the pictures of it looks like it either has tape or protective foam around where the studs are anyway..if it is tape , no need to do anything else ..if it is foam, replace it with tape.. This is all just speculation I won't be sure till I get one and attempt to make it fit. The only other thing I would see as an issue is where the center holes in the trunk lid are as in relation to the brake light.. if they are hidden under it I say rout out the underside of the spoiler so that you can use one of them to route the tail light wires through. Get nice water proof grommet and a plug for the other side and you are set.. Again I am only going by the pictures but when I get one I would much rather make it fit the car than the car fit it..

Agreed.

The exploded parts diagram for the ZL-1 spoiler clearly shows adhesive. Like you, I'm assuming it's more for liquid intrusion control than it is for physical holding/mounting properties.

Given the nature of the mechanical fasteners, the tape has to be serving a dual purpose, for sure.

There is no adhesive tape on the zl1 spoiler. It is secured with bolts and one way clips. I f starting with an allready equipped ss spoiler, holes will need to be filled.
This is not a direct bolt on.

It does not clearly show adhesive. In fact, if you read the description it clearly says weather strip. Weather strip does not automatically mean adhesive tape.

There is adhesive on the weather strip, but its to the bottom of the spoiler.

IMO this needs to be made with the tail light out so it covers the holes.

I asume the ZL1 trunk is a direct bolt on, what is the cost of it? THen you could sell your SS tunk w/spoiler to someone with a V6 that didnt want to drill their trunk.

when you try to buy a new trunklid, there are no holes in it. They have to be drilled for specific spoiler and the cost is over 300 bucks for a new trunk lid!

This is not a direct bolt on.
We were discussing the possibilities of how to modify the spoiler to make it fit the car not modify the car to fit the spoiler.. we know it is not a direct bolt on..hence the discussion.. I would rather hack at a $200 spoiler than the trunk lid of my car..

See the OP above. That is the 1st post in this DIY thread.

I have both and clearly explained what needs to be done to make it work, Hence my clear and acurate discription.

I would suggest buying a different spoiler than "hacking" at this one just to make it fit.
Unless you have No spoiler and wish to add this one! then it is a clear winner! easy bolt on!

While I have mine appart???? would anyone be intersted in a drill template? Since these come with NONE lol
And ofer King of the DIY is ready to make a plug n play harness available.
Just trying to help guys.... This is what i do! Autobody that is.
