What's the purpose of the filter in place of the oil cap, and how can I get a hold of the right person to purchase the rx catch can?

Not likely that you would need the breather unless you are running FI, or have an issue with finding oil in your intake at the clean side fitting. You can get the RX can by PMing SC2150.

Interesting fact I heard the other day. AN fittings were developed by the Army and Navy looking for a better fitting that was light and tight fitting for aircraft. Thus an aluminum fitting called AN. Has anyone else heard that? Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct. I was at a locally owned auto parts store last night talking to the owner about quick disconnects. When I brought up the subject of AN, he told me something very similar.

You are correct. Most people connect it to aviation so often they are referred to as aviation (AN) fittings. But the truth is it was an Army Navy product for Aviation.

Hey Tracy, is it common for the breather to start getting dirty quick?

No...it shouldn't. Are you running it with the RX catchcan? If so send pics of your hose routing. It will eventually get dirty, but should take month before needing to be cleaned.

Here's a pic.

You should try and make it to some of our local Jax meets. there are quite a few guys from Jax that probably share your hangar.

I agree P3SAR you should come out. We have a couple of P3 guys and plenty of other military. And its a lot of fun.

That is what I orginally thought before I heard the Army-Navy story.

Sorry Tracy, I didn't mean to steal your thread. I will quit now

I personnaly think the RX Catch Can is the best on the market not to mention the customer support after the sale.

I'll take pix when i get a chance but yea the hoses are installed correctly. The breather's filter is turning a bit darker than what it normally is. Is that because its doing what its supposed to?

Edit**

Here is my setup. Everything else was installed exactly how what comes in the instructions for the L99. Only thing i didnt do is tie the drain tube with the included zip tie and use that black ruber that was included.

All good discussion here and all related. And I endorse both the Elite & Mike Norris/CCA as excellent cans as well.

Yes Sir, you are correct. Developed by Hughes Helicopters I do believe.

It will get slightly dirty as you put miles on...it is filtering the dust & dirt out of the air entering the crankcase, but should not get oil soaked.
