oh yeah, im sure high 11's are gonna be almost as normal as running high 12's in an SS (8-11mph/tenths difference)

The SS loses roughly 65hp in drivetrain losses (15%). I imagine the ZL1 with its heavy duty parts to lose a bit more. at least 85hp maybe more.

Don't forget, it also takes power to spin the supercharger.

High 12's are not easy on 275 SS stock rubber, but can be done. I ran sub-13's, bone stock/full tire pressure. Wonder why GM went with 305's on the ZL1. Thought it would have 315's.

If thats all they run GM should be embarassed IMO. An SS with headers, CAI, tune and slicks will run faster.

I think GM delivered a well balanced and versatile car with the Zl1. A 0 to 60 in 3.8 and a 12.1 quarter mile time by one of the reviewers isn't all that bad for what the car is. GM aimed towards a track car. Finally we have reviews about the camaro that don't complain about the poor handling of camaro, but actually compliment on it. For 55k i still see it as quite a deal for what you get. We all know the new Gt500 is going to bring great competition, but maybe we should wait until it arrives as a final production car. For now the zl1 is on top.

Could it be related to track understeer in relation to front tires? The relationship of each corner is crucial to total package. Maybe 315's on the rear would require bigger fronts = too much on the front to maintain track reliance.
Too little on the front vs rear = understeer???? (hey that rhymes!)

wellnow...........

.........this thread's been all over the map, hasn't it?

My first reaction after reading thru most of it.......

.........that Passion runs deep for both Camaro and Mustang.........

and isn't it GREAT that we can have these discussions/arguments these days? Many of us remember the 'death' of performance back in the 70s.....and many of us remember the 'hiatus' of the Camaro.......

...........so in many respects, I'm glad we can have these discussions.

A couple of points:

1. No one knows exactly what will happen when we put these cars head-to-head at one track with one driver on one day.......that will be very telling.

2. Mustang owners for the most part don't like Camaros and Camaro owners for the most part don't like Mustangs. It doesn't mean that either car is a bad car. (......Holy Cheese and Crackers - did I just say that in my 'out loud' voice!!!???? ) I would hope that all Camaro owners behave themselves on Mustang sites IF they indeed go there - but I sometimes question the motives of why people jump between sites - perhaps to:

3. (and most of you have heard me say this time after time) - -

"The name 'Camaro' means 'friend, pal, or comrade'...." - and we need to remember that on this site. Let's keep it friendly, please.

This IS, indeed, the Golden Age of performance.

Now - let's all settle down and enjoy this era.

What's scary about that is wait until people start moding their ZL1's with similar upgrades!

Wow, there is alot of boohoo coming from the so called Camaro fans. Go buy ur discustang or ur poor whore shh caveman r. It will make the line move faster so I can get my Zl1. It's about the total package IMO. If you want to be top dog then have NASA make a street legal Saturn V.
