AUTO TRANS WILL NOT UPSHIFT

My 2010 SS with an automatic trans (16,000 miles) will not go back into 6th gear after slowing down. This happens when on the highway at 70-75 MPH.
All is fine until I must slow down for any reason, and then accelerate back up past 60 to get back to 70 or better. It then stays in 5th gear.
AT about 70 MPH my tach reads about 2000 RPM in 6th gear. In 5th gear my tach then reads well over 2200 even at 65.
To get the car to go back into 6th gear I have to shift into Sport mode, then manually upshift back to 6th gear. Then all is fine back in D until I slow down again.
I had it to the dealer who could find nothing wrong. I'm planning on going back again this week.
Has anyone else had this problem with their A6 ?

I'm sorry to hear about this old88. Have you taken a dealer tech for a ride with you to show what the vehicle does while driving at the speeds you mentioned? That might be the best way to go about this. I hope they're able to find the problem and get it taken care of for you.

When I brought the car in for the oil cooler leak they checked the trans fluid at that time.
that's the first thing I thought of. I've made an appointment at the dealer for Monday.
The tech will road test the car on the interstate with me. Hopefully I can duplicate the problem with him.

so you took it to the dealer, replicated the problem, and they told you there was nothing wrong?

No. The dealer checked the trans fluid and only hooked up the computer while it was in the shop and found nothing.
This Monday they will actually road test it with me on our local interstate.

Why did they "check" the trans fluid level if there was no trans fluid leaking?

Who knows what they did.

The trans fluid level will be good for 100,000 miles at least, if there is no visible leak!

Just like white SS/RS above said- The fluid level was the first thing the dealer's transmission tech said he would check. It could have been low from the factory
Besides there was fluid leaking under the car but it was from the oil cooler. That was a gasket leak which apparently is a common problem and the dealer repaired.
Hopefully Monday I can duplicate the problem with the tech in the car.

As an update: The dealer contacted GM and apparently I'm the only one who has had this problem. I had it on the Interstate twice and tried to duplicate the problem without success. I'm not sure but I guess that's a good thing.
I'll see how it is in the Spring when Im back on the road.

A mis-fire detected will keep it from going into lock-up mode, but that would have shown on the scan as a stored code. It will also show as a flashing CEL indicating a misfire.

Fuild level is critical but you have covered that.

We run diagnostics in real time while test driving and can command every shift & lock-up and watch in real time what is happening. If you were closer I would tell you to stop in

I am also experiencing this problem. Did your dealer resolve this issue?
