November 2011 - SS 2.5" Mid pipes Installed


Forgot to take pics of them uninstalled but may take an updated video and post it soon. I swung by Meineke in Katy and got him to weld in my donor SS pipes (thanks BACH ! )

They are installed right behind my BBK LT high flow cats and welded up to my MRT V2 axle back to complete a full 2.5" system. I was quoted $125 for the work but once he got going he soon realized that the SS pipes I had were too short to simply slip straight in so he ended up having to fab some additional 2.5" pipe and weld it in. I ended up paying $305.

The sound is more aggressive and my butt dyno says it has more poke too, so all in all I am a happy man.

So, where do you suggest taking some MS stock wheels to be painted black? What'd that set you back?

I'd love to do virtually every single mod you've done - great taste - I've seen these mods (most) done but not all to the same car. Nice work and am anxious to see more.

I bought them from a fellow H-Town Camaro club member - I paid ~$900 but sold mine for $500. On my next car (yes, I have plans to upgrade to the SS in the near future ) I will get them powder coated black instead of paint (it's more durable). There is a place close to where I work that does them for around $150 / wheel.

Thanks for the compliments, I am really happy with the way she turned out and get alot of compliments. I took her to my Chevy Dealer on Friday for a service and the Service guy thought I was driving an SS (it doesn't sound like a V8 but it is pretty loud and mean sounding all the same). The chevy mechanic also said it was the best RS he had ever seen , from a Chevy dealer mechanic, I thought that was the ultimate compliment - they never get old either

January 2012 - Blown Clutch & Busted Pressure Plate & Fly Wheel

I've read alot of stories about the V6 clutches sticking and had experienced it a couple of times but nothing too serious......until tonight.

Driving home I hammered it from 3rd to 4th and although the gears engaged the clutch had stuck to the floor and I was accelerating heavy with the clutch in, it eventually released and my back wheels spun (thankfully had my nannies on so I didn't lose the back end. Anyway I eventually got to the point that I needed to slow down to a stop and then had a bit of trouble engaging first and then the car was shaking as I pulled off, moving to 2nd and the other gears was ok (no problem with engaging or shaking) but clutch feels pretty soft now.

Any ideas?

I have booked it in for a service first thing tomorrow and it is still covered under warranty - Will I be ok to drive it there or should I get it towed?

Any input/advice would be appreciated.



EDIT:

Update: Sounds like it may be the clutch pressure plate bolt being loose. There was no burning clutch smell when it happened and I am still able to change gears. The clutch feels softer though and the car vibrates at slow speed in reverse or first gear (maybe the clutch isn't engaging correctly??) - hopefully the reason. Will find out tomorrow though when I head to the dealers.

I haven't had any problems with the clutch/trans yet. I'm curious to see what you find out.

Dealer couldn't get to it yesterday as they were too busy but got a call today.............

I trashed the clutch, fly wheel and pressure plate - they all need replacing.

Good news is they will cover it - he seemed to lay it on saying that they'd cover it this time but if I had a similar issue in the future they wouldn't be able to.

I'm guessing the pressure plate not being torqued correctly in the first place could be argued as being the cause this time so they will correct it now meaning that argument could not be used next time around?

Anyway good news and just reconfirms to me that I need to upgrade to an SS auto sooner rather than later......

Well, at least they are covering it under warranty. That could have been an expensive repair if you got stuck with the bill.

I'm sure Jerry can hook you up with a nice upgrade...how about jumping right over the SS and going to a ZL1?
