Why are some having rub marks and other not?

It seems that the cause of the rub marks above the doors are from the rail system joint rubbing/pressing against the top when down is the cause... why are some of us having this issue and others not? Logic would seem to dictate that this is a design flaw across the board.

Thoughts?

There are a number of people out there with no problems. I had my top replaced when rub marks happened. TSBs were done also. Since then I havent had rub marks but I have had air leaks and water management issues that still havent been fixed. The replacement top just isn't right. Still waiting on a GM fix

I doubt this explains it all but some tops close more tightly than others, which SUX's recent fix showed stops the marks and positioning the brackets differently at the factory can also help minimize rubbing.

It may very well be a variance in the height tolorence... we've all seen the tests Sux and I have done that clearly show how the rail lines up with the top and rubs when down, so that's inevitably the issue.... there's got to be an acceptable variation in all design specifications... I wouldn't be surprised if just a sligt series of differences in those specs among cars were enough to tighten/loosen the compression of the top and the severity of the rub marks....I think Sux said he only went up about 1/8"... that's not a lot, so to me that's plausible.

Doesn't explain why its taking GM so long to straighten his out though.

Quality control is the problem. There isn't any quality control

I figured I should add the following to the mix....

My car was built +/- 2 days from Dragos car if I remember correctly (2/9/11). I however did not receive mine until about a month later. The time line from camarotracking idicates mine was in Q/A for most of that time. This is my daily driver with around 13,000 miles. I have had 0 issues with my top. (very minor pinch marks, which are almost non existent). I have had the top up and down 100s of times over the past 10 months. I've driven 75 on the highway with no tonneau cover on and with it on without problems. No leaks, no water management issues, no wind noise, no rear window issues, fifth rib, etc..... nada.

Only issue I had was getting too much sun on a day in August. (ouch)

I wish I was you car wise any way. My car was built within days of yours and also in quality control for over a month. Everything was fine until December then all hell broke loose.Goes back tomorrow for them to try and fiqure this crap out. My service guy seems just as upset about this as I am. So it looks like QC was hit or miss. Hopefully this will be the last ''fix''.

I just reviewed GMconnects.com, Mine was built on February 10th and delivered on the 26th. I had an original TPW of the first week of January (3400 status on 1/6) then it dropped all the way back to 3000, and a new TPW in Feb...

Everything seemed to move very smoothly once the build began on 2/4, changing status's almost daily until it was received, with no appearant stops for QC... never got an explanation of why it got pushed back by a month in January, but the numbers indicate it never made it to production (or QC) to cause the January build delay...

My 2012 was built on 7/26 and I had it on 8/4. No QC for me either. You would think one of the first off the line for the new year would of had some QC done to it. Plus, I had the second delivered in the whole damn country.

You can check my build info via GM connects here:
http://chevroletconnects.com/viewsta...%40hotmail.com
Order 11/16,
3400 status 1/6...

The original orders were set to build beginning of Jan. In went to great lengths to ensure I was at the front of the line... like I said before tho, don't know why I went from beginning of Jan to mid Feb, but it did. And no one from the dealer to GM customer service could explain the delay.. I think i about drove Becky crazy last year, this time trying to figure it out, lol!,

Not saying cars WERE built much before, but I was scheduled significantly earlier....
