The two cars they need to think about are Solstice\Sky and the G8's.... would really be sad to see those cars go away with no reasonable similar car.

G8 into the impala would be the move of the century. No hiatus, no having R&D for an all new car. Mostly, you could even keep the styling. Package a V6 that is affordable, and man there you go.

Not that this would happen. I would think something like this would be increadibly hard to pull off in a short amount of time.

And how often have you seen anything advertised for the G8? Without advertisement it's going to take some time to get enough traction from word of mouth and just seeing them on the road.

And here's the sales of the G8...

yeah,... WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL over a year ago i saw a G8 commercial on the TVs at the gym. it was very dark, slick, and made me LOOK until it was over. that was it. ONCE.

i looked it up, was impressed...then noticed that the reviews were stellar.
i test drove a G8 GT for fun and it was super nice. very nice front end stance....

(sigh)

First step from our beloved prez, send in the "gubment" to tell GM what to do and how to do it. If you think the elimination of Pontiac is bad, just wait. As long as GM is under the prez's thumb, he will try to manipulate the entire company. Soon we will see nothing but little tin-cans running on batteries. No Camaros, no Cadillacs, no pickups, just crap that the left thinks is "green" and that we the stupid consumer SHOULD drive. Might take a few years, but this is the beginning of the end for GM. Thanks for voting socialist. What a joke.

D.u.m.b. Jalopnik reported that it was specifically the Solstice and Vibe that weren't getting moved... not "any".

From GMI "Pontiac has been the victim of GM PR smoke-and-mirrors for the last few months. They have been telling the public it would be reduced to a niche brand in years to come, but in reality: GM Board of Directors voted to kill Pontiac on August 28, 2008!"

This has been in the making for a long time.

im too optimistic (hopeful) that it WONT go down that way -- but youre right... lets just hope things change. other pitfalls in auto history have happened, and we bounced back. kinda. time will tell, really. if we feel this way we should TRYYYYY to find ways to be heard and not GM-bash.

lets revolt by creating a huge V8 gang and driving straight up to the white house! imagine THAT sound.....

We will hear more in the following week. I'm sure there is some corporate reason they don't want to move models over. Its going to be hard to see the G8 along side the Camaro within the same brand.

Also, its the right car at the wrong time. If the Camaro didn't have such a cult following and a strong appeal, then I wouldn't be surprised it that venture fell flat on its face in this hard times.

Well I'm going to keep reading between the lines and hope that the G8 will move to chevrolet. The "G8" is being phased out... Pontiac is cutting off ties with Holden...

It really makes too much sense to build a G8-esque car in Oshawa.

Then you would love this from the GMI thread.

"There is a problem with that statement, though. Henderson also stated that there would be 34 nameplates. We all did guesstimates around the 31 nameplates, but 34 is more than that. If you wipe out Saab, Saturn, and Pontiac you're down below 34.

Man, this is going to make me really have to think hard about trading in the G8 for the Camaro. I am getting the Camaro either way but now I might want to hold onto the G8 as well. Ugh...
