What happened to a top fix in January?

Wasn't GM supposed to have a more permanent solution for the pinching/rub marks this month? I guess we should expect some good news in the next 5 days huh?

Here's hoping!

I was told they were still waiting on parts for the bulletin. I sure hope these fixes are included on the new ones coming down the line.

Well I hope they get them soon before more tops are ruined. Have you or anyone seen what this new permafix bulletin entails?

I got my 2012, prod date 12/15/11 - on January 12. Granted, I don't have many miles on it yet, the black top is showing zero signs of rub marks starting. Trust me, I'm examining it very carefully every time I finish a drive with the top down.

I don't have a good pic yet, but in the meantime...
This was yesterday on my way home from work.

Top down in January.. maybe a new thread to follow the top down driving in december thread?

No response from him in the post. I guess we shall see when the TSB comes out. Not that I could get mine in now and get it fixed anyway.

I'm being told still that the Rubbing fix is still being documented and parts are going to be coming. The water management fix is out at some dealership for trial installs, my dealer did one last week. There were a few installation issues that are being fixed and my parts are in and should be done late next week.
With a mild winter in newengland I hope to be using my vert in top down again soon.

This is great news!!!
It sounds like GM is actually working on it...just like fbodfather had said.
I am becoming even more optimistic that fixes will be forthcoming and will alleviate any fears that I had.
remember
driving a coupe=ok
driving a vert= PRICELESS!!!!

Thanks for the update Nutt. See if you can find out if they are doing the fix on the production line if you can. I want to be sure it is if/when I get my new car.

My vert was built last week, I'll be getting it next week. Do you think my car will have any improvements on the top problems?

I know they said the water management fix is on the production line. My parts got pulled from production. The top fix, it sounds like they are getting parts from what ever the fix is and making drawings to get them done ? That's what it sounded like. GM reps are still hush hush on this .

Since we haven't had any dealer updates lately, I decided to check out myblocal service dept today. Keep in mind, this is the original.dealership who documented my marks last Mar/April, but never serviced my car since...

I was directed immediately to the service manager, who knew and acknowledged exactly what I was talking about (that alone was a breath of fresh air!) He said their is no fix yet, however GM is working on a redesign of the bow structure, which, once completed, will require a complete new top and mechanism to be installed on the effected cars. He recommended in the mean time, using a silicone spray on the rails to relieve some of the friction. He also went on to mention GM my very well be releasing this fix soon, to a "test group" to evaluate the fix before releasing it to all the dealerships.

I believe him to be about the most knowledgeable and sincere of the service personnel I've spoken to so far. If he's B.S.ing me, it worked; cuz i left their feeling somewhat relieved actually believing theyres light at the end of the tunnel!

He also said to keep an eye on the Camaro forums, because chances are someone from wherever the test group ends up will post on there (here ) before his service dept finds out.

If that is indeed true that is good news to those of us with major problems. I volunteer to be a test subject. Side not. I did tell my rep that if they were to replace again and not get me a new car I want the whole mechanism. Not just the canvas. The cloth isn't the problem. It is the rails and design. Let's hope there is a spring miracle in the works.

Drago, my dealership and GM rep were insinuating that the whole mechanism was being changed but wouldn't confirm when I asked. They were saying it was an extensive change.
