Is that why the GT 5.0 beats the SS in every road course test I've seen? Is that why the 11 GT500 laid down a 2:58 lap at VIR? What you are saying is simply not correct.

They have a reputation for selling "stock trim" cars that have stripped interiors and such.
What does the base SS have that the base GT doesn't? What is stripped from the interior of the GT500 compared to the ZL1? Can you even get nav with the ZL1?

They also omit items like oil coolers and differential coolers from the GT500, limiting them to the drag strip and not actual racing.
The 2013 GT500 has both those available and you can bet that the version tested by the mags will include them.

Personally I could give two ***** about what the Mustang is going to have or not have. I want a Camaro and that's that.

Compared to the Mustang the Camaro's interior would be stripped down regardless of of it had a Nav system

Ford guys are not even scoffing now as there have been a few reports of a 7:35 ring time from the red GT500 test mule. I don't doubt the 7:35 is a legit time but it hasn't been said if that red test car was going to be the production model.

The ZL1 is gonna be one hella of a car and I would totally choose it over a 2013 GT500 as my Ring mobile. It would almost be a no brainer if GM stuffed the LS9 in there instead of the LSA. All they would have to do is give it a lower advertised hp to avoid getting the ZR1 guys all butt hurt just like they did once the LS1 came along and GM decided to give Camaro a lower hp rating even though it was an identical engine. I also don't buy "the LS9 too expensive argument" because the current GT500's engine retails for $22,000 just like the LS9.

Come on GM and give us the proper sturdy foundation for really putting it to GT500's on the track since most are running high boost vs low boost LSA's

Back in 69 GM didn't care who's feeling would get hurt when they dropped the all aluminum 427 in the original ZL1 1/4 mile monster. Back then they left it up to the customer to decide if they wanted a high compression, high lift solid roller motor with a stupid low rear gear and headers in the trunk in just about every model car offered. For the past 3 years the only decision performance enthusiasts had to make before buying was automatic or manual transmission.

I fully expect the ZL1 to get around the "Ring" easier than the GT500. But not necessarily faster. It does sound like the GT500 will hand the ZL1 it's ass in the 1/4. We all know that the majority of the contests between the two will take place...in some type of straight line race. But from what I know about the two cars right now...I like the GT5000. But the ZL1 gets my dollars.

You make an interesting point. If I were investing in one of these 2 cars to sell in the future and make big money I think I would have to buy the GT500.
In 25 years there will be a lot fewer of them on the road because their average driver owners will have wrecked out a good number of them trying to keep up with the easier to drive fast ZL1.

LOL!

I don't think we can declare a winner even with real performance numbers from the GT 500. We really need to see the price. If it is 1 or 2 tenths quicker to 60 and is 5 grand or more expensive(not expecting it to be quicker), then they really can't take home the trophy just yet. And if the price is comparable but the GT 500 is missing all the track coolers and things, it's still not the better deal. 650HP will only sell so much to today's educated consumer. Chevy has every base covered and Ford has their work cut out for them and then some.
