In 25 years there will be a lot fewer of them on the road because their average driver owners will have wrecked out a good number of them trying to keep up with the easier to drive fast ZL1.

LOL!
Now that there is funny!

And if the price is comparable but the GT 500 is missing all the track coolers and things, it's still not the better deal. 650HP will only sell so much to today's educated consumer. Chevy has every base covered and Ford has their work cut out for them and then some.
That's the thing, all the articles I've read about the GT500 stated all the new cooling packs were standard, like on the ZL1. It's almost like they are taking the standard items and copying the same over to the GT500, that would normally have to pay extra for. With all the new standard items plus the power, I don't see them not raising the price accordingly. IMO, it ain't gonna be cheep !!!

im gonna guess its gonna cost more. The GT500 has no gas guzzler tax to help it some so both might be the same in the end... OR the GT500 still might still be a couple grand more.

About 6 pages shorter.

And not nearly as entertaining/frustrating.

Boring as hell, I don't mind Ford guys in here at all. It makes for some good reading, ribbing and debate. There is only a problem when fan boys from either side, take things out of context and take them as a personal attack against them or the people they put up on a pedestal. The world needs to lighten up, and don't take life so seriously.

I think you might be mistaken, I haven't seen one single article that says the cooling items are standard, they're part of the track pack.

It's not going to be cheap, in the same way that the ZL1 isn't cheap, and the same way that the 2012 GT500 isn't what most would consider cheap.

I'm (almost) certain the price will go up, but at around 56,300 for a base ZL1 incl. GGT, and around 49,800 for a base 2012 (no GGT), the price can go up A LOT before it's really going to be significantly more than the ZL1.

I keep seeing people say that the price increase is going to be enormous because of the power increase, but the power increase is caused by two things, boring (which doesn't technically cost anything, but you could ascribe some R&D and testing costs to it, I guess), and the TVS2300. A VMP TVS2300 is 3500 bucks, at most, and that's retail price and throwing the old Eaton M112 into the garbage. When you consider manufacturer discounts and the cost saved from the M112, the TVS2300 isn't going to cost Ford a whole lot of money. Maybe a thousand bucks. CF driveshaft? Maybe 700 bucks. Better brakes? Maybe another thousand. Better suspension? Lets give it another thousand. Stouter tranny and diff? Lets say another 700. All the coolers? Lets say another 700.

Add all that up to the base price of a 2012 GT500 and you're looking at an MSRP of under 55k. Add it to the price of a 2012 GT500 that already had the SVT performance package (53,600 IIRC) and you still only get an MSRP of around 58,700. That's only 2400 bucks more than a base ZL1.

These people saying that the GT500 is going to base at 60k+ and be upper 60s or low 70s with the two performance packages are just nuts. Smart money is putting base 2013 GT500 at slightly less than a ZL1 and, with all the performance options, slightly more than a ZL1. And I think if Ford really wanted to stick it to Chevy, they could probably do even better than that. It's rumored that the GT500 has a TON of profit built into it, I think if they really wanted to they could keep the base price right under 50k and the performance optioned price right at 55k. I don't think they will, but I think they could.

the Mustang rags borrowed GM's "simulator" and came up with mid 11's 1/4 mile time for the 13GT500.

Anyways, I'll still go with the ZL-1, it's not always about power.

Is that like the people that look up their cars value on KBB and always go with the excellent condition price no matter what condition their car is in?
