Wow, what a frickin nightmare! The TPMS were too long by about 1/4 in and hit the front coil overs (pedders 52mm) called the place i bought em from and was told to take them to the local discount tire and they should have shorter TPMS.

Well they dont make shorter so they relocated the sensor to the front valve and put in a shorter plug in the rear hole where the TPMS was at when shipped.....i will snap a few pics tomorrow. I just got the car home now.

Anyway i was informed that the long sensors in the rear wheels would not be a problem, just the fronts had to be modded. In my haste to get to discount before they closed i threw one front and one rear in my jeep and thought they were both the fronts (diff offsets front and rear). Got home and saw it and pretty much figured this is how it would be.

Anyway, i made some mods to the front pass side coil over with the air grinder...dont freak out Pete. I took off maybe less than 1/4 in of material off the strut so the tpms would clear. the drivers side wheel was good since it had the TPMS relocated to inside the tire. i got the clearance...i also have a degree in civil engineering and looked at the area i clearanced from the pedders coil over and knew it would not be an issue...sorry again Pete. I will post photos tomorrow. the fronts were good

I mounted the rears, one tpms relocated and the other had the long tpms due to my earlier screw up of taking one front wheel and one rear. Anyway, going off the infor that the rears would not be a factor with the long sensors. I mounted them and spun the wheels while off the ground on jacks..No issues.

I lowered the car off the floor jacks and cranked it up. Had the dash display set so i could monitor the tire pressures in case Murphy reared his ugly head. Drove around the block a couple time and pressures remained good. So off i went to the main street in Wichita Falls. took a nice easy 90deg right turn by the mall at about 20mph and the car died....gave me a display about "low power cutoff" or something like that. Tried to start it up and fired up for a second and died....same warning about low power shutoff. Tried again, same. Called usaa for a tow truck and got out of the car and noticed the right rear wheel was flat.....then i began to wonder if the computer was trying to be smarter than me and killed the motor due to the flat tire. the vehicle info menu still registered good pressure in all tires??????

Any way while waiting for the tow, my Mustang buddies showed up and helped me push it off the street and into the mall parking lot.

Went home and threw the OEM rear tires in the trusty jeep CJ and changed the rear wheels out and moved the bad tire out of range(the TPMS had been broken off on something? need to look tomorrow. With the oem wheels on the rear, the motor fired up and drove it home and just got it there 20 min ago.

Will take the other wheels with the long sensors and get Discount tire to relocate them i guess.

Same thing happened here, except mine was the e-brake line... I had to use bands.

Pics

Pic one is the broken off TPMS sensor from the right(pass side ) rear wheel. dont know what it broke off on...will look tomorrow

Pic 2 is the pass side front and where i took some material off the coilover to clear the long tpms

Pic 3 is what they replaced the TPMS with...much shorter but the sensor was relocated to the front valve stem

Pic 4 is a little bit of how the wheels look mounted. better pics to follow once i figure this out

Bull, sorry you had such a rough night. When you get a chance, and maybe Discount can do this, have the new wheel and tire size programmed in with a Tech II or USB scan tool. It can also be done with HP Tuner.

For everyone else that reads about Bull's TPMS saga, do NOT use an exposed TPMS sensor inside your inner barrel. Use this setup.

I wonder if I should tell Forgeline to move the sensor hole further inward when I order my wheels?

Alrighty then! Just got back from Discount tire. the sensor on the right rear broke off on the lower control arm not the hand brake cable like i suspected. Found that out just now when mounting the rears.

Anyway.. discount relocated the TPMS and stem inside the tire. they made up a rectangular bracket with holes on each end. one end connects to the 90deg valve, the one that goes to the front of the wheel to fill, the other goes to the stem with the tpms attached. it is completely internal. They then just inserted a short standard rubber valve thru the old tmps hole it is much shorter and i checked and have plenty of clearance.

Pete, would you recommend i purchase the brackets you linked to. Then take them back to discount and have them mount them.

Is it actually a fact that a flat tire will cause the ECM to shut down the motor. Mine did and would not restart until i moved the flat tire about a hundred feet away. This was after i mounted the OEM rears. With the flat tire sitting next to the car it would still not start. It would fire up for a second then quit and gave me a "reduced power mode" or something to that effect. Cant remember what it was exactly. Moved the flat tire about 15 spaces down in the mall parking lot and Viola!

The TPMS sensors and valve stems were installed by the wheel vendor and not by Forgeline.

Forgeline will build the wheel the way you order it. If you want Forgeline to install the TPMS sensor and valve stems they will. Just order the wheels with the TPMS sensor, as shown in my earlier post, and valve stems.

To prevent any further interesting experiences I would get the Forgeline brackets so the inner barrel has nothing stick out of it.

Pete, i talked to discount and showed them the bracket from Forgeline's website. He said my TPMS hole is too far out on the rim for it to work. If you look at the pics i posted earlier the hole is further out than on the Forgeline photos. But it looks like i have enough distance to the edge that these should work. what do you think.

Just got back, no issues except after about 20 minutes the "service TPMS" light comes on and i check the pressures on the display and the front wheels dropped off and didnt display anything.

Any Ideas. I really hate all these damn sensors. Are people that stupid nowadays that they need a sensor for everything on a damn car. what happed to grabbing you gauge from the glove box every fill up and checking the pressure manually

Is there a way to tune out the TPMS system

I'm actually embarassed to say this but you dont even see the Red 2011 Camaro, its in front of the house. My jeep gets to sleep inside the garage even though its 28 yrs old.

My wife bought a red one in june and was pissed that she couldnt get the synergy green. Anyway she saw one driving around town with for sale on the back window. She chased the kid down and bought it. It was her cash she has been squirreling away for the last 10 years.

We decided to keep the red one for a trip car etc. I am making the payments on that one so i get to drive it...though she throws fits everytime i do. Hers are both V6 so they are also economical. USAA loves us BTW

Kinda sucks when you're anxious to see a mod come to fruition. In case you didn't know, your TPMS monitor system will register the last air pressure reading for several miles before it gives you a warning to "service TPMS system". You'll most likely have to reprogram the TPMS in order to start monitoring TP again. Here's the procedure, if you don't have it:
  1. Press the “Menu” button on your turn signal lever
  2. Change the display on the dash until tou see the tire pressure information
  3. Press the “Set” button on the end of your turn signal lever to start the
    recalibration. It ask you if you would like to start the recalibration, select
    “Yes”
  4. The horn will sound twice informing you the process has started
  5. Start with the driver front tire and release 3-4 PSI, the horn will sound once
  6. Go to passenger front tire, release 3-4 PSI, the horn will sound once
  7. Go to the passenger rear tire, release 3-4 PSI, the horn will sound once
  8. Go to the drive rear tire, release 3-4 PSI, the horn will sound once, and then
    twice to signal sync is complete
  9. Check the dash to confirm the “Service Tire Monitor System” message has cleared
  10. Refill the tires to the proper pressure
