Just replaced DT Shortie Headers with OBX Long Tubes

Yesterday i replaed my doug thorley shortie headers with some OBX Long tube headers. The muffler shop was able to retain the use of my solo high flow cats, which im glad about. So last night i go out to test the new headers. Immediatly i notice the car is very sluggish and has no power. It feels Like i lost 25 HP. So i am a little dissapointed but i say to myself that i will drive it tommorow some more. Maybe the ECM needs time to adjust to the new modification. So this morning i take the car out and again it still feel's like i have lost a ton of power. After about 25 minuets of driving i start to notice the car coming back alive. Okay as of now my car feels exactly the same as before i got the Long Tube headers installed. So my questions is should i be able to feel a noticeable power increase right away by going with Long Tube headers? Do you think a retune from Vince will make me notice a difference in power. I just dont want to have wasted my money on something i did not gain anything out of.

Hrmm...that is strange...but it defintely sounds like a tune or ECM relearn issue. Hopefully it will get better, as there is no way the car should have lost power.

But my other thought is this...Is a LT header + solo HFC option really that much better than shorties + HFC? I'm really not sure....the LTs may flow a tad better, but you've already removed the stock cats before so that should have gotten you better results than just doing shorties alone.

I don't want to be a debbie downer...but my guess is you may gain a little power, but not too much over the shorty + solo HFC option.

Definitely datalog it and then have Vince look at it though, as there could be something going on there.

I will do a data log tonight and send it to vince. Hopefully he can work his magic. Thanks for the reply.

Did your installer disconnect the battery? Go try that for about 10 minutes. Sometimes that helps the ECU reset. But definitely data log.

I'm not sure. Will give it a try.

you should be able to reset your computer with the trifecta tune.

I can tell you from my own experience, that when I installed my LT I was disappointed as well. However I did have a FT issue, turns out it was the vararam breather. However and while I can only speak from my own car, that the car seems to need time to learn, almost 50-75 miles, sometimes 100 miles and under normal driving conditions. When I reset the battery I drove the car normal for about 100 miles and the car seemed to be better. I only drive the car once a week at best so I know I would feel a difference in the car, once the FT issue was fixed even better and after vince sent me a tune it was awesome

I Just took my car out and did some dataloging for Vince. The power does seem to be getting better the longer i drive the car. At this moment the car seems to be a little faster in the higher RPM's then with my shortie headers. The difference so far is just minimal, hopefully with a retune from vince we can get some more out of the long tubes. Also i noticed how raspy the long tubes headers make the exhaust note sound.

Sorry to hear about the differance from the shorties to the OBX. I LOVE my LT OBX Headers. I can tell the change in HP big time. This would be the first mod I recomend for anyone looking for HP.

Just kept on hearing that shortie headers do basically nothing and long tubes are where all the power is at. Got curious and pulled the trigger.

Shorties with HF cats are just about as good (sometimes better ) than a set of Long Tubes.

They both act the same way and we all know that the bottleneck in both the V6 and V8 cars is the OEM Cats.

I'll stay posted up on this one as I hope the best for your HP Quest!

I guess that sometimes your car takes more than it should to relearn the new setting.

LTs with Trifecta should give you plenty of power on your 2nd gear.

Hopefully Vince will be able to sort you out.
