Good News - Got new tires; Bad News - take a look!

So my General G-Max tires came in and I had them installed today. Now I can drive around with no worries when a light slush hits.

But too bad this happened during the install!

The installer said he's going to take care of it, and that he's probably going to just replace the wheel. He's waiting on the store manager to get back from a meeting. Just curious if this can even be fixed? Obviously I'm happy with getting a new wheel, but what if he says they want to just fix it instead?

No sweat...you will only have the marks as a memory IF done properly.

Thanks. I just wanted to be prepared in case they say they're repairing it instead of replacing it.

What's your opinion of the G-Max's as far as ride quality, road noise, cornering and braking?

They were just put on today so I haven't got to really try them out yet. But the ride home from the installer was as quiet if not quieter than with the PZero tires. That's a pretty small sample size though.

Who did the install. Take them back and demand they replace the wheel.

ALWAYS look at your wheels before leaving when having work done like changing tires or even rotating them too.

Read the first post. I did check, and they are going to replace it. But I wanted to be prepared in case they change their mind and decide to repair it.

I'm not going to name the installer because they immediately said they would take care of it. Mistakes happen, and as long as the mistake is fixed I'm content.

And I agree with you. I always check to make sure no damage has been done. I would be pretty upset with myself if I hadn't noticed.

You will be lucky to get a shop to pay for wheel damage. I think every shop in southern wisconsin has a disclaimer about rims and tpms sensors. Big rims and stiff lopro tires all a tire guy can do is cross his fingures and do his best.

I have scratched two rims now after two years of mounting tires. One was my own and the other a close friend. Luckly not show cars. But what do you do..."demand they replace a wheel" I dont think so.

Hope they touch it up for you and it turns out good.

It's stuff like this that made me glad I mounted Pirelli Scorpion Snow & Ice tires to my stock wheels and the Conti DWS to my Forgelines. This way I can go 2-3 years between tire dismounts on either set and reduce the chance the shop will damage any wheels. I average about 15k miles a year--depending on when it snows and how much we get I'll put about 12K on the DWS's and 3-5K on the snows. At this rate I may get sidewall rot on the winter tires before the tread wears out!

I just had all season Toyo tires installed by a large tire dealer (Town Fair Tire) on my extra Camaro polished wheels.
I had them inspect the wheels before the install and they admitted they were perfect.
When I picked up my car all 4 wheels were scratched up. They wanted me to accept a repair and I refused.
I started a small claims action ($3100.00+) against Town Fair and they turned it over to their libility company.
They sent an adjuster and we neogiated a settlement of $2,000.00 and I kept the wheels for winter use.
Thanks Travelers +1 company.
The lesson learned is always do a pre-install wheel inspection before having your wheels & or tires serviced.

They called and decided they want to try a wheel repair first for the damage. If it's not done to my satisfaction, we'll go the replacement route.

I've seen before and after pictures of several wheels that were repaired, and they look good if done right. So I'm hoping for the best. I'll know next weekend after I take it in.

Considering there was no "proof" that they did the damage (no before pictures), they have been very gracious in helping solve the problem. Keeping my fingers crossed!
