6.2 SS OIL CONSUMPTION-PLEASE READ
Hello, Its been a while since I have been on here but I wanted to see if I can get some feedback on this oil consumption issue with the 6.2. I have a really good reason for asking but I would like to get as much feedback as possible before I give out the troubling details.
Do you think that GM would issue a recall if a lot of the 6.2 engines are burning oil? What do you think it would take for GM to rebuild or put in a new engine that is burning oil? Would a new Camaro thats burning oil pass a CA smog check? Where do you think the oil goes? Are there many people out there that the engines are burning oil? Hope to hear from you guys soon

I've heard about it with the V6s but not the V8s.
Are you sure it's 'Burning' oil? Lot's of them had oil leaks at the pan. Small leaks that over 8k miles would lead to the car being low. I've not heard of a common problem for the LS engines burning oil.

Burning how much oil how often. It's all relative.
I've got close to 13K miles on my 2SS/RS M6 and haven't had any oil issues at all. |

They will not issue a recall. They haven't for the convertible top problems yet. The best we will get is a TSB and hush hush from them about any problem.

Nice pictures! Is the engine from a Camaro? I heard that before about rings not seating. Would you consider "sticking rings" to be that same thing?
From the pictures, it looks like you may have been working on that engine?? Were the pistons replaced?

CATCH CANS need to be FACTORY INSTALLED. when you change the oil just pour out the 1 quart of oil that ends up in the catch can and not on top of the pistons.

what sc2150 said
The LS1 burned oil, the LS2 burned oil, so does the LS3. This is mostly with manuals and mostly with drivers that don't rev match perfectly. A little oil escapes past the rings each time. That's the whole reason people put on catch cans.

My CC has caught about 15oz in 2500 miles; I've gotta empty my CC every 500 miles. I think my problem is similar to IndeedSS1; leaking Valley Cover.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ghlight=excess GM wants me to document oil consumption by removing the CC, putting the OEM PCV tube back, get an oil change and come in every 1000 miles for a check up (at a Dealer) |
