I agree that it did look a little unstable at times. However, we don't know how hard this guy was pushing it. He could have been trying to find the cars limits for all we know. I think that Jamal Hameedi, the head SVT engineer, saying that the vert is 3.5 seconds faster around the track then the 2011 GT500 PP coupe speaks volumes here. IF thats the case then its safe to say that the 13GT500 coupe will be an absolute beast, and will definately give the Z a run for its money around a track...

Sebring is not a road course. Accelerate, brake turn for the most part. It is more like a street circuit for Indycar. Not that 3 seconds isn't big but HP and improved brakes would yield more there than at a typical road course that would be more dependent on suspension. Just my $0.02

Ok. Have you ever been there? It is not typical. It is built on an old airport.

Isn't that what you do on ALL roadcourse's? Accelerate, brake, and turn... Just kidding!

I see where your going, but all im saying is if the 13 vert is faster than the 11 PP coupe on this course(by 3.5 seconds) its probably quite a bit faster on other courses as well. The fact that we're talking about a convertible, destroying the 2011 PP GT500 coupe's times,(on any track) is pretty impressive, and speaks volumes for what the coupe would do!...

It outperformed one Mustang on one track. A track that is over 4600' above sea level, I might add.

I have to admit, I am a little worried with that statement as 3.5 seconds is quite a bit faster, especially for the vert. I expected to the new GT500 to be faster in the 1/4, but if they stuff the ZL1 in the straights, strip, and track, I will feel a little let down, although we don’t know what is in store for the '13 ZL1. Of course I would be heartbroken if the '13 had a major power bump considering I have #52 '12 ZL1 and would hate to see a power change months after I take possession of mine.

The ZL1 is faster than the Boss LS, it's been proven and every mag agrees. It is by far an all around better performer with the ability to comfortably drive ED. Most mags agree the ZL1 is currently in a class of it's own as there is no competition (currently) for it. Now of course that will change with the '13 GT500.

.
IMO, evryone thought the ZL1 would win in the road courses. However, the 2012 GT500 beats the CTS-V on the track, and I imagine the ZL1 will be close to the CTS-V. I don't see how people could just write off the GT500 and assume the Z will be road course king. Is is that kind of belief that casued the stir of trolls form the Ford camp.

As far as the 2013 Z coming out with big upgrades, I don't see how. the 2012 run is so short there really isn't time before the order banks are open for the 2013, unless it is a super late release much like the 2012, but even then it still takes time to develop and test everything.

At the end of the day, both cars are amazing performers. If you like the ZL1 better, you are going to buy the ZL1. Same for the Ford. There is always someone faster. Buy what you liek and enjoy the ride

The ZL1 is lighter than the CTS-V, has 3rd gen MR and is tuned more agressively for handling

While I don't necessarily disagree, I could care less about what the Ford camp thinks, and especially the trolls. They aren't welcome here and I'll personally see them out the door. This is OUR house - they're not welcome and won't be tollerated.

And I'm 6'3 and 230 and my head would touch the roof in a sunroof equipped Camaro and I'm much more comfortable in the Mustang. In fact, I found the Camaro very cramped and claustrophobic, and it's one of the few reasons I didn't pick one up. It's a price you pay for those looks.
The Mustang is easier to see out of due to the high belt line of the Camaro, not to mention the Mustang is 1.6 inches taller overall. Claustrophobic I could understand due to the smaller windows but cramped it is not. In the GT I felt like my knees were bent into the console and door as the steering wheel wasn't telescoping. So it's either drive with my arms locked straight and my legs stretched comfortably or bow my knees to the sides and reach the wheel comfortably. I'm 6'1" and 165lbs. Maybe the GT premium has telescoping wheel - that would have helped a lot.

Beating the V by nearly 20 seconds on the Ring is pretty significant. I wouldn't call that close.
