Question Rattling and knock sensors...

Until I can hunt down this damn non stop rattling from the rear can the knock sensors be safely tuned out?

After a fuse pull (5 and 22) the car runs like a raped ape until I drive about two blocks down my bumpy street and then the performance drops off tremendously.

I have the SCT X3 from JRE.

Ok, how about turning them down? The rattle is NOT cause by the exhaust and is proving to be a real mutha hunting down.

Talk to your tuner. Are you sure that's the problem? I'm no tuning expert, but I've never heard of that happening (and the roads around here really suck). The fuse pull is just resetting the fuel trims, it's not like it's a permanent power-adder. I would figure out where the rattle is coming from though.

Fix the problem, if you turn the knock sensors off you will regret it because then you will never find the actual cause, and then you will have a real issue and it will be too late.

You need to find it. It can even happen after a tune because the Knock Sensors are constant and super fast. So if the condition persists then the car will be dumbed down until the cause is taken care of.

Need proof.

Knock sensors are your friend.....look at the "piston carnage" thread for pics of what CAN happen if messed with. Now if your only running on the track and your 110% sure the tune is correct then we turn them off for consistancy, but that is VERY controlled conditions, fuel, tune, etc.

What catchcan are you running? Most let enough oil through to still cause detonation. ANY oil ingestion into the intake air charge is detrimental.

How much knock are you seeing when you scan? And do you see the knock show up when you hear the rattles? Does the power drop like this when you are on the stock tune?...Just curious

Great questions, I have just begun trying to deal with this. The dealer can't find the rattle, blames my muffler delete. I have had it in the air and cant find it either. The rattle is only present going over bumps, and small bumps at that, sounds like the driver side rear.

This is where I am at in the process.

Search 'rattle' on this site and about a thousand threads are returned.

Loose brake pad????

Tap lightly on some things with a RUBBER malet...could be a heat shield as well?

Thanks checked all the easy obvious stuff think I would have found it by now. I just don't have enough knowledge about the suspension setup to know what I am looking at.

The fact is that it is loud enough to trip knock sensors and have the car running like crap.

Having chased down a few noises on my car I get your frustration.

Took me a while to find them.

Used a set of Chassis Ears on my suspension to find one.

Do you have any aftermarket suspension mods?
