Problems with Royal Purple Oil Filter

In October I did my first oil change on the car. Switched to Royal Purple Oil and a Royal Purple Filter. The last week of January, I put headers/tune/CAI on the car.

SO I go into my garage the other night and much to my dismay, I find about a 1/2 quart of oil puddled under the car. So my first reaction is "$&#@, I broke the rear seal or the camaro is suddenly on her period and pissed because of valentine's day...someone else has been taking my attention".

I climb under her and start checking things, and my Royal Purple Filter is litterally one turn from being off. I know it was tight. I did it myself. Talk about a disaster waiting to happen!

1) I've been on the dyno.
2) I've taken at least 9 passes in her.
3) And I'm about to add a blower.

So first question. Anyone have similar issues with their royal purple filters "unthreading"?

What Filters are people running if you are running a "high performance" motor oil?

thanks in advance.

Pre-lubed the seal and re-adjusted the calibration on my arm. This wasn't my first rodeo.

AC/Delco UPF48R

Tighten by hand, then use wrench for additional 1/2 turn.

Are you sure the previous oil filter gasket didn't stick to the engine when you removed the old filter.

A "double" gasket does exactly what you have descibed

Nope... and the gasket wasn't split either. It was the weirdest thing. I had a spare royal purple filter, so I threw it on there. We will see how it holds up.

Had a little help possibly ?

Could it be that you had a little help there ? Been changing my oil and filters for 50 years and never had one back off.Just does not sound right.Been on all that time and no leaks and with all the additional runs at the strip, it should of leaked prior.i would be keeping a real close eye on it including a locking gas cap !

Never had an issue with an RP filter. I've been using them for 2 years on 2 different cars. Sounds like it wasn't completely tightened (not saying you don't know how to install an oil filter) or it was a bad filter.

Hopefully the next one you put on works without issue.

Well, so far, and with about 30mi on the new RP filter (the one I had laying around for the next oil change), no leaks. Must have just been a fluke with the old filter.

Buzzy- My dad said the same thing! I did the change myself.

I use AMSOIl EA filters. they are a nano fiber that filters down very small particles, the design of the filter is also very heavy duty.

I usto use WIX
