But yeah, it was the Pontiacs built between the late '50s and early '70s that made the brand. It's been all downhill since.

The demographic that bought Pontiacs back then can find virtually nothing in a GM showroom today. The G8 fits, but GM destroyed the brand to the point that too many of the folks looking for cars like that wouldn't want to be seen in a Pontiac.

R.I.P Pontiac- GM announces Pontiac brand to be phased out

Please forgive me if this is a duplicate, I did not see it anywhere on here yet.

For those of you that have not heard...

http://www.pontiac.com/owners/pontia...ued-statement/

"Pontiac brand to be phased out as part of GM’s more aggressive restructuring efforts"

No more hopes for those firebird fans, and a lot more (21,000 from one report) lives are going to be affected by unemployment.

Pontiac is officially done : (

Was just at pontiac's official site and they have a notice saying that GM is phasing out the brand. Let's have a moment of silence for the Trans Ams and firebirds that will never be.

It is a sad day, but hopefully this will allow GM to continue on stronger than before.

And never say never...

What I don't get is other than marketing and advertising there's very little cost in having extra brands if they are all run from the same offices and assembly lines.

Being a die-hard Camaro lover, and no disrespect to the Firebird and Trans-Am die-hards, if I am forced to give up one to save the other, I choose Camaro of course.

Silver lining? Anyone that owns a classic Firebird may see the values going up.

I would have way rather see pontiac survie over lets say GMC. Seems to me that gmc brand and chevy have basicly the exact same models.

Pity,it breaks my heart. I was a Pontiac fan first. My brother bought a 1969 GTO Judge when he got back from Viet Nam. I remember him taking to school and cruising around. It was a jaw dropper. He even had the exhaust by-pass button on the dash and the ultra cool hood mounted tach.

Then I saw the 70 1/2 Trans Am. Dam that was and still is my dream car.

My first car was a 1964 Grand Prix with the 8 lug wheels and 389 4 bbl with the tach on the console very similar to the Camaro's gauge pack. Totally useless since you had to take your eyes off the read to read it, but it was an A3 so it wasn't like it was needed. It blew upon me on my way to my first duty assignment. I had to call a buddy to come and tow me home. My folks had to drive me to Scott AFB.

My first BRAND NEW car was a Buccaneer Red w/white interior 1975 Trans Am bought with my re-enlistment bonus. I remember it stickered for $5315 and I got for $5015 ($300 off). My payments were $135/month for 3 years. Had an AM radio. I had a Pioneer cassette deck installed in the little bin near the bottom of the dash and 2 6X9 Jensen speakers in the rear deck. They wired it front to rear (since there were no door speakers to left to right). I bought my next Pontiac while stationed in Naples Italy in 1979. I bought a 78 Trans Am 6.6 T/A (220HP HO motor) with the screaming Firebird decal on the hood. I destroyed all the euro trash I ran across on the Autostrada including many Porsche's and a few Ferrari's. I bought it from a Navy CPO and shipped it tomy duty assignment in Madrid Spain (Torrejon AB). The Spanish just recovering from life under Franco would freak, point, stare and want to talk about the car. I cruised Madrid and the commotion it caused is probably still talked about by Spainards to this day.

I've had a love affair with Pontiac's since my dad bought a 1962 Grand Prix back in 1966 - very rare I'm told.

What a sad day for enthusiasts.
