Easier said than done, would have to drop the trans. Maybe I can rent a snake camera and work it through the vents at the bottom of the trans. Anyone know how much room there is between the flywheel and engine block?

Whitehambone, I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but here is a pic of the area you are talking about accessing, as you can see there really isn't much room there. This shot was taken just after the new flywheel was installed. I am following tis thread as I will be installing the RX CC within the next few weeks.

I didn't put the flywheel on, that pic is from Livernois. I did get in there and see the car while they were doing the job and man there is very little room as the flywheel is basically bolted to the end of the crank so I'd say no there probably isn't enough room to get a finger in there. Thats why replacing a rear main seal is so damned expensive, the seal doesn't cost much it's all labor getting to it. I know thats probably not what you wanted to hear, just trying to help.

This thread has me a bit scared now... Gunna keep an eye on this. I know when my car is cold I never get on it because you can just feel like the car is building pressure when I go over 2K. Im talking about when the car just started after sitting overnight and outside temps are around 50 degress or lower. I always wait for oil temp to get up to normal operating temps before I go nuts on the throttle.
Will keep an eye on this thread and good luck on pin pointing the problem OP.

It appears the hoses are routed backwards (this is the first I heard of the issue...no contact from the OP).
The outer valve of the can runs to the vacuum nipple on the pssenger side of the intake maniflod snout and the valley cover fitting runs to the center valve on the can. The pictures show it connecting to the passenger side valve cover and that should be capped when using the breather kit. So that explains all your seeing/smelling. There is no way for the crankcase to evacuate when not routed correctly. The other thing (as the pictures dont show) is we find a high percentage accidently open the drain valve. he drain valve is CLOSED when the thrreads are all the way exposed and extended, and open when the threads are retraceted and not all visable. So this is an easy solution. I am always available to walk anyone through an install or troubleshoot. Simply call direct: 727-422-0076. Last edited by SC2150; 02-20-2012 at 01:24 PM. |

If your NOT catching oil most likely the drain valve is open and was not closed after you emptied it. That is the most common issue we find. Thanks to all that have helpped the OP and others with questions. The RX can have integrated flow controlling check-valves to regulated the flow and prevent back-flow back into the IM. They may make a slight buzz sound (that indicates it is working) but should not be loud. If the drain is left open it will clatter loudly as it is trying to deal with the vacuum leak. Also, remember the quickest way to get help is usually to contact me directly.....I am usually available to help. |

Thats what I was afraid of, I just didn't want to post what others already had. So basically this motor has been building up this pressure since the install, and finally the weakest link (apparently the rear main seal) gave up the ghost. If that is the case it sure does say something for how well built these engines really are.

Thats exactly what Tracey is saying Whitehambone, The valley cover line does not go to the center of the can, the intake manifold line does, the lines are reversed from what you are saying.
