Exclamation Headers...

I had a shop tell me that the LS motors like having backpressure and that I don't need headers until I go FI. And that the performance shops with dyno's can alter your dyno to show your making more power with headers... That I would be very disappointed spending so much on headers and not noticing a power gain.

What do you think ?

I think you need to take your business to another shop that has a clue.

There are plenty good shops in the Houston area. There is a very active Camaro club as well. You need to go talk to some of those guys.

I can tell you first hand that headers and a tune will get you a significant increase in power. You won't be disappointed. Ask anyone that's done it.

I will say that they are correct in saying that they can alter the dyno to make it say what they want but realize a dyno should be used as a tool to measure the increase in power and allow for a tuner to make adjustments. Don't live by just what the HP numbers say. Look at the increase in power.

I'll be honest....with a statement like that, I wouldn't let that shop touch the tune on my car. It's obvious he doesn't have experience with adding headers to an LS motor.

I think thats crap. Got my ARH headers and tuned at the same time. Big seat of the pants difference. And the numbers jumped about 40whp.

This shop doesn't do tuning, I just called to get a price quote on installing headers only... Thanks for the only!

Does it really take a shop 5 hours to install headers and CATS?! Around $500!

5 hours is a bit much for a shop...It took me 5 hours to install my headers and cats with jack stands in my garage..and it was my first time installing headers..

My dealer quoted me 4 hours labor to install a complete exhaust (headers all the way back to the axle back) or about $300.

My buddy and I did full exhaust (headers and axle back) in 6 hours on jackstands in his driveway. This included a break for him to take the screaming baby off of his wife's hands for a while. We also had to make a run for lock tite. 5 hours for a real shop is excessive.

As mentioned - go with a reputable high-performance shop or you will have problems (big).....!!!!!

I just had headers installed yesterday replacing my SOLO midpipes. As long as you weren't already running highflow cats you will notice a big difference.

WOW! that's way too expensive.

Contact MLee from the H-Town Camaro Club. They will point you to someone good that won't take you to the cleaners. Heck, you might even find a club member that's will to help you put them on for next to nothing.

yea, i really want to make some more power gains, my LS3 seems to be bad at acceleration from a dead stop, must be the torque management system slowing it down : ( I cant even light em up with TC off and stomping on the gas...

do you think a tune by lowering the TM will solve this issue big time?

Just installed headers man and its the best money I have spent on the car thus far. CAI, long tubes and a great tune by Ted Jannetty and you will be so happy with your car's performance. You have to be careful who you are dealing with and deal with someone you can trust. Watch for the vendors posting on these forums and trust their word. A majority of them have great feedback. I have been very happy with Ted at JRE and he isnt even in my state. I have had worse luck with a so called "reputable" shop near by.
