![]() Please read my original post. I am NOT jumping to conclusions, all I have said is that the times I have seen thus far are weak. Did I say that they were the final and absolute times? No, I did not. I just said we haven't seen times that do the car justice. Some people here are so quick to take offense to anything said that is not in adoration of the car.

Even in poor track conditions the Camaro SS is trapping 107mph. That's good for very low 13s.
My 06 GTO ran 13.3 with a 105mph trap speed. So a decent launch should pull 13.1 - 13.2 with 107 mph traps. I don't think we'll see really good times (high 12s @ 111 mph) until this fall in cool dry air. I read that GM High Tech is supposed to be testing the Camaro SS this Monday at Englishtown (I believe). But the weather conditions aren't suppose to be very good. |

Okay, some more comments. I also owned an '06 GTO prior, own the '09 G8 GT in those pics, and also have an '09 Z06. The GTO was by far the worst when it came to wheel hop. The Camaro has hop, but it isn't as violent as the GTO hop was. The Z06 has hardly any at all, it is very simple to launch. FYI, my bone stock Z06 went 11.55 @ 125 mph on this same track, on stock runflat tires in 70F weather. The G8 GT ran 13.86 @ 104 mph yesterday, it is also completely stock. Zero wheel hop in the auto G8, it was as simple as flooring the throttle, it cut a 1.9 60'.
As for my "poor" driving skills, those who know me would disagree with that comment. Hell, I was the first LS1/M6 f-body owner to run 11s on motor, nearly a decade ago. I set numerous manual LS1 records along the way. My best ET on a bone stock LS1 f-body was 12.85 @ 109 mph (2001 Z28 base). I've also owned/raced several 10-second 6-speed LS powered cars. Honestly, it doesn't take a "skilled driver" to run a mid-13 second car. Nobody would have gotten a better 60' here, we tried. The delicate balance of spin/hop/bog made it impossible. Like someone said, look up Density Altitude and learn how that affects a car at the track. BTW, those gear upshifts were powershifts. Throttle didn't come off the floor. What you are hearing is the torque management partially shutting the t-body after the shift, and the timing ramping back up. I couldn't shift it any faster, and if I could it wouldn't have mattered with the torque management stepping in between each gear. Launch control was more like bog-o-matic. It was easier to control it yourself. Tony

Chill guys, early C6 test results were all over the board back in 05. Within a year car mags and owners were beating the factory times. Launching an IRS car on a drag strip is not it's forte (advantage solid axle) but once mastered Corvette guys are now satisified. Example the C5 Z is now considered an 11 second car. Plus torque management could be at play here. We just don't don't all the LIMFACTS. It'll be sorted out over time.
So just chill. |

Funny you mention the C6 Tom. My best ET in my previous '05 C6 manual (12.4 @ 114) is still near the top-10 on the Corvetteforum list. That was over 4 years ago. Of course, that time was in cool weather

SOo, so far the normal traps for REAL tracks has been 107-108 mph. That will probably be the average. People like to say "Stock LS1 Fbody's were running that over a decade ago!" but in reality, on most days, fbody's were on average in the 105's on the days I went.

I personnaly dont think 13.51 is worth $35k+. It just doesnt add up to me. I have seen many, many LS1 F-Bodies do way better than that, with 100 less horsepower.
I would imagine its the torque management, etc. When someone gets into the computer and cleans it up, fixes the wheel hop, we'll be seeing much better times. I for one was dissapionted that this car would have IRS, if I buy one of these, first on the list will be getting a ford 9" under the damn thing. |

TxBandit, you have to view the $35K pricetag as the entire package. The 5th gen is far superior to the 4th gen in just about every aspect. Build quality, safety, materials, chassis rigidity, engine bay space, seats, electronics, transmission, engine, brakes, wheels, etc... all are better than the 4th gen. It isn't just about which car ET's the best when stock. We all know the LS3 has huge potential when even lightly modded. Cam and headers are pushing 500 rwhp in the Corvettes. Also, the price of a fully loaded SS hasn't really gone up too much since 2002. I paid $29K for a loaded 4th gen SS, and my '02 35th SS convertible had an MSRP of $39K. Most loaded WS6's and Firehawks were in the $30K+ range as well.
Agreed on the axle thing, I sure would have liked a solid axle as an option.

I hear you about the structure thing, the WS6 flexed really bad. All in all I didnt have to many quality issues with the WS6, I put 3 clutches in it, 4 rearends, all due to what I did with the car. |

Seats feel very similar to the GTO and G8. They are MUCH nicer than the 4th gen seats. Leather quality is also on par with the GTO/G8, it is thicker than the paper leather on the 4th gen. The door panels, console, dash seem sturdy, I liked them. The shifter knob is kind of awkward, it is like a big baseball with flat sides. I'd rather have a more traditional shaped knob. The two main gauges are kind of cheap looking, would have preferred a better font on the numbers. The steering wheel kind of hides the tach at the rev limit, unless you put the seat all the way down and the wheel higher. Kind of strange. If you put the seat too low, it makes visibility suffer some, due to the smaller window profile. I'm 5-11, for reference. It drives/feels very similar to the GTO/G8, more like the G8 since they share the same platform. It has less body roll than the G8 though. I can't wait to get mine.

Those times are not bad for the conditions but this is how you settle the BS. Talk is cheap and everyone is a better driver on the internet.. I think we have a sticky ready here already. Just post the slips with the mods. Tires and the Driver make a huge diference in times. The car is on the street, lets stop speculating and put some rubber on the track.
