Looks good so far mace, is the install easy or hard, in other words would a DIY guy be able to with lack of experience.

This is my downfall no matter how much work i feel so much better doing it myself even if i have never done it i would have to try it so i can say i did it. Just like springs will be getting put on soon never done anything like it before but a first for everything.

save yourself some heart ache and see if advance auto has a spring compressor you can borrow/check out. i used ratchet straps which got the job done...but it was a little red neck if you know what i mean. but it is very DIY doable. good luck

I wouldn't even let a good backyard mechanic touch my cam swap LOL. Mess that cam timing and ughhhhh!! getting it right the first time is the right way to do it even if it mean paying a little extra.

True how much does it cost to get cams installed though?

I say around $1000 and more on average from a mechanic that I would trust. There are some real talented guys that will do this for you for alot cheaper tho, but I guess that's a personal preference if you are willing to take that chance. That's why when doing cams you might as well do the head too.

You guys think about this, if just doing the cams is worth about 20hp is it worth to do a cam swap??

That can range ALOT! You have a company such as CFM that will port our head with angle valve job starting at $1000. I heard matt D, the one who ported and did the valve job for bmwdon and now installed on gretchen's car charge $1000 for the head and intake manifold for a complete job. So you are looking at around $3300, maybe a little less or a little more for install/head/cams.

Gain on the low side probably will be around 30-40 to the rear for the combo but if I had to guess I would say around 60 and maybe more depending on the grind for the combo. We just won't know for sure though until someone actually dyno the head but according to the flow report on matt d's worked head it could be possible that we could see 40+ with just head alone.

This is all from when bmwdon was doing the heads back in 2010. Maybe he can chime in and give us more info.

This is stock head's flow

"Intake
.200 135
.300 152
.400 160
.450 162
.500 160

Exhaust
.200 135

After the work

"Intake. Gain over stock

.300 262 +7
.400 304 +29

Let's not turn this into a vendor-bashing thread, these guys are working together to make our LLT a great motor.

Plus Tracy stated that they won't be duplicating Mace's efforts, as they are much further into the process.
