The GM plant that built Camaros for lots of years in SW Ohio closed in the late 80's. That plant too supported my family, my town, my school. I understand kinda where you are coming from 2010SSRS....BUT....In the grand scheme of things, although the car is built outside these wonderful 50 states we call home, Money collected from the sale of those vehicles stay with the parent company...GM...in the U. S. A.

And the answer to the question by the OP.......Yes that is a dumb reason not to buy this car
Doh.

My bad.

I don't care for the political banter (reminds me of the Miller commercials - Taste Great - Less Filling) I just want to know why GM decided to built it in Canada and not the US.

Was GM saying American can't build a quality vehicle?

It was cheaper.

If you do a Google Earth search you will see most of the vast array of truck and train convoys leaving Oshawa empty. I think that there are secret tunnels from the Oshawa plant to covert pick up locations for Canadians who paid a premium to be a member of the secret "Camaros for Canadians Only" network.... hehe !

UAW wants new Camaro built in Oklahoma City

With the reintroduction of the Chevrolet Camaro all but certain, General Motors and the UAW are now trying to figure out where to build the beast. Officials from the union are making a pitch for the recently idled Oklahoma City plant, which assembled long-wheelbase versions of the Chevy TrailBlazer and GMC Envoy. By securing the Camaro, the plant would presumably also "win" the assembly of other Zeta-based vehicles.

We're not quite sure how this plays into the reports from last month that the CAW made significant concessions in an attempt to secure the assembly of the Camaro, but it's possible - and we're only speculating here - that the OK City plant's previous RWD product may give it an advantage.

Seems fair.
What he said . Thats the truth.

And who gives a chit....... is this forum not all about those who owned, loved, or going to own a Camaro and their stories, experiences. It's not about politics, preferences, or prejudices. I would buy this Camaro if it were made in Kazanikstan ! You know what, I would even buy it if it was manufactured in the good ole USA! And the sooner the better.

American - Canadian

Firstly, I understand that the selection (of Oshawa) was based on Quality awards as a number 1 plant for production quality over a number of years - not related to the camaro nor the current state of the economy.

I think, just simply it stands as a reward for the commitment and hard work of those individuals that make the Oshawa plant what it is.

Furthermore, I think that just being able to say that the Camaro is built on north american soil proves that solidarity and the will to move forward with the ideal of generations past is better than buying offshore and certainly better than arguing over who built a perfect machine.

If it is any consolation, Canadians value GM so much that we consistently support GM by keeping it at the top of the sales chart (Yes, April too) even though they are closing the truck plant in mid-May forever.

I do know how your brother feels, so he may want to look at a Corvette or Cobalt SS if he feels that strongly about the Camaro.

Hopefully, more Americans will stop buying Japanese cars because unlike Canadians, they don't buy any American cars.

Not going to lie, one of the reasons that I want a Camaro is because its built in Canada. If it wasn't, then I would have a much harder time choosing between it and the Challenger.

But there were a lot of factors that went into selecting Oshawa as the build site, some of it was quality, a lot involved the 4th gens that were built in Ste Therese.
