Top speeds in each gear with LS3
Like title says, what are the top speeds in each gear you can realistically reach witout getting dangerously close to redlining it? And IF you could ever find a place to safely do so, is 5th the gear to use to try to reach top speed (whatever MPH that'd end up being)?

I don't know about each gear but mine hit 160 in 4th on the dyno according to my timers but that was on a dyno...

I hit 153 in 4th got 166 in fifth before I had to slow down.

On a stock car or even moderately modded, you'll run out of HP LONG before you run out of gear. This is provided you have the speed limiter tuned out.

Max speed at redline in all gears
My 2SS M6 has 345 rear end gears. Stock its govered to 155MPH max. So only 4th gear is needed, but 5th gear will also get it there.

they are both limited to 155 due to the tires. the ss will go much faster if the govenor is removed. Also, when comparing the V6 to the V8, remember the V8 will get you there MUCH quicker. Where you going to go 155 anyhow? 275...
1-4 are your power gears 5-6 are cruising gears (overdrive) I agree with the poster that said with the governor removed the car is HP (drag) limited. You run out of power before you run out of gear. Meaning you will NEVER redline 6th... probably not 5th either. Also, don't worry about getting close to the redline. I have banged off the rev limiter a few times, not a big deal, thats why its there! |

Mine hits the rev limiter at 111 mph in 3rd. Have done it twice with exact same 111. You can also detect the lag in the MPH gauge. Very noticable since MPH climbs after rev limiter hits.

OK, I'm gonna admit that I must be unnecessarily cautious when upshifting from what I've read in the replies because I rarely wait until the rpm's are too much above about 3500-3700. Being new to the car (about 5 weeks) I guess I just don't want to break anything but it sounds like it's sturdier than I give it credit for, so that's a good thing. Maybe I'll start winding it out a bit more at times.
