Absolutely true!!! It's unfortunate that many large market dealers, frequently within a couple hundred miles of New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami, use the relatively large aggregate wealth of the area to test consumer patience. I don't really like it either, but I would never pay these ridiculous over MSRP prices. Myself...well I just don’t need ANY car that badly. The Las Vegas dealerships pointed out in this thread know that there are impulsive buyers that "have to stay ahead of the Jones" and will buck-up a few extra grand just to show-off. Once a couple of cars are held in inventory for a few weeks, asking prices will come back to earth. Nothing new here....Simple supply and demand economics that we best not change. Playing the devils advocate, and in fairness to all dealers, should they not complain when we're trying to buy under sticker then?? We all must keep in mind that the "S" in MSRP is a still just a "suggested" number by manufactures like GM. They are free to ask $10K over today and your free to offer $10K under tomorrow when the tables turn....as they certainly will!! Look at the Z06 Corvette for example, early last year, they still brought a $10K MSRP premium...today $20K under MSRP is occurring for late 2008 VINs still held in inventory. In this electronic world...anyone with the skill to post on this site can shop the entire country for a fair price on any car...I'm getting #4245 a couple hundred $$ over invoice at an upstanding Midwest dealership. There are plenty of dealers with allocation that will beat MSRP all day long...right now. It just takes a little more effort on your part. As I understand it, GM rewards dealers willing to sell volume in lieu of price with extra allocations of popular cars....these are the operators to seek-out.

I did not say there were not agreements in place that would have to be altered in fact I have no idea what agreements do or dont reside between the dealer and the manufacture. I am sure you are far more aware of this than I am. Changing anything is a bitch, no doubt, and this change might be impossible I have no idea. But car dealers have been the LETS MAKE A DEAL group forever, I guess that can not be changed either but it sure seems to me that I have never talked with any other person who looks forward to dealing with a dealer. It is what it is and I will continue to think that there is a better way to sell cars. 50 years ago there was no internet, there was hardly any television, but info today is available to anyone who wants to get the info, from the manufacture and endless opinions like this form and magazines etc etc. I suppose there is a camaro twitter thing going on. Again I dont know, dont care. I simply think that with all this data available, dealers need to get off the perch and get some reality going. Again I am sure there are dealers that are honest, and work to help the client, and no doubt that buyer comes back again and again. On my semipro football team one of the players sells chevy products he said that the dealer could only make 800 bucks profit, which makes no sense so maybe GM is squeezing these guys and they have no recourse. The truth of all this is hard to find, too bad. Maybe one of the dealers on this site could fill us all in, unless its a big secret.

I am a professional business owner AND a professional consumer. I'm not showing any dealer respect until I get one that treats me like an intelligent, interested buyer. I've gotten screwed and scammed on just about every Chevrolet I've purchased regardless of dealership. They impose special paint insurance, screw me with disgusting finance charges when my credit is perfect and then when I leave my car in their hands to service, they do not notate my tires are wearing quickly until it is too late. EXPENSIVE PIRELLI'S by the way. I don't care who you are. A good appple or a bad apple. Until I start getting treated like a first class citizen when I walk into a dealership with $40K to spend on a vehicle, that dealer better roll out the red carpet, fetch me a cup of coffee, get me the best vehicle pricing, look me squarely in the eye, tell me the truth and be polite about it. Until this happens, you'll be just like every other salesman who has to pull their weight and earn customer respect in a sea of other salesmen who have sullied your credibility without you having done a thing to contribute to it. Don't take it out on me because you are working behind the eight ball thanks to your associates. You sell me a car without all the BS, you'll bet your sweet cheeks I will be the first to blab it all over the world to everybody I know and I will CONTINUE to purchase vehicles from you. Please, don't insult me. It isn't befitting of you. Instead of taking offense to what I'm saying take greater proactive approaches to change customer opinion of the vehicle buying experience. You know as well as I do that the customer isn't always right, however, unless you are willing to turn away business because you cannot swallow your foolish pride, the customer will continue to always be right. ![]() By the way, I already know the Malibu is a much better car than the Camry. I completely agree with you there, but the sales experience has to reflect the workmanship and stature of the car to make it a hit. Last edited by DkknightX; 05-04-2009 at 02:56 AM. |

I plan on buying a slightly used [ less than 15k miles on it ]loaded 2SS sometime next summer or fall. I can almost guarantee I will be able to find a real nice one for around
27k maybe less. If GM stays in business and keeps building the Camaro there will be no shortage by next summer. There will be deals on new ones which will drive the price of used ones down. |

OK... I GIVE UP......... I'm absurd -- and I evidently IMAGINED that there are these things called "Motor Vehicle" Bureaus in each of the 50 States in the United States. I must have imagined going before the Connecticut board to keep a dealership open in the Hartford Area...... My family must have been 'schnookered" when they bought the various dealerships over the years -- See -- the ONLY reason I'm on this site is to fool people! I love misleading them! .....I've been doing it at GM for over 32 years!!!! Please! Someone! STOP ME!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() . |

Scott, this maybe a little off topic but who gets to make the upcoming decision as to which dealerships stay and which ones go. If GM has any say in this, would this not present a golden opportunity to sever relationships with those dealers who have been less than scrupulous over the years?

![]() Simple answer everyone. Don't like how dealers in your area run things? Contact your state representatives and change the law to where GM CAN do something about it. If you don't try and change it, you don't have anything to stand on when you complain. If you think GM wouldnt want to take care of shady dealers given the opportunity, then there is no hope for you. |

10k over msrp is uncalled for. But who is stupid the dealer or the person who will eventually buy it for 10k over? Isnt that dealer from TV out there in vegas with the blue genie. Chop or Chomp or something. I dont like his practices from watching his show on TV.

I think this thread has gotten a little bit too hot... everyone needs to take a chill pill and relax... fact is there is nothing we can do to stop dealers from selling vehicles for what they want to sell them for.
Scott puts a lot of time and effort in trying to put out flames and no one here is really listening to what he is saying... looks like he's given up trying to assist in this thread.... Lets stop arguing about what we can't fix.... |

This is ridiculous.
This thread has gotten way out of hand. Kill it now before people start getting angry and leaving. Keep it civil people or GM is NEVER going to release a shred of information about any future GM product ever again. Scott VOLUNTEERS his time to be here. He DOES NOT have to be here. Either respect what he has to say or don't post at all. This is ridiculous.
