Cool "Camaro" letters causing scaring on paint

So after removing the Camaro letters, in order to put on some new ones, i noticed an outline of some of the letters scarred in the paint.

Is this common? Before this i havnt seen or even heard of it before. Also, is there a way to fix it? maybe touch up paint or something..? Plus theres a scar on my hood from a basketball hoop, maybe I could fix it as well

I'd try Goo Gone to get the remants of the camaro lettering. The mark on your hood, is that a scratch or is it just dirty?

I've used lighter fluid before but then buff and wax afterwards. Not sure I'd try on my Camaro though? Never had an issue but just the thought of it bugs me! Love my car too much....sometimes!

If it's residue from the old letters, WD-40 works great. Do you already install the new letters? It doesn't look like you cleaned the area at all before you put them on. As far as the hood I can't tell from the pics if that's a scratch or a scuff mark.

What did you use to remove the lettering, razor blade instead of dental floss or fishing line?

I used Goo Gone to remove the letters. The scratch on the hood is shallow and collects dirt which makes it look worse.

I already installed the new emblems. It was a week ago so the dirt on the car is from daily driving.

I used Good Gone and dental floss. I heated the area up first as well.

It almost looks like someone used a razor blade around the edges of the lettering or something. The paint on these cars is INSAINLY fragile, when I removed my rear bowtie, the FISHING LINE left light scratches in the clear coat. They would probably buff right out, but I was putting a vinyl blackout stipe there anyway.

When i had the shop install my rally stripes the rubber squeegee the guy used left marks in the clearcoat as well, he caught it and felt really bad. He showed me the sqweegee he used and I can see no way it could cause scratches, but it did. He was nice enough to have them buffed out for me.

I want to change out the fender badges for black soon, just cant be to careful, this paint chips when you look at it wrong.

it's a hood after a basketball has bounced off of it.

Thought this was a halloween thread or something .

Surprised Goo-gone didn't take it away though :-/. Maybe a buffer might do something, but it seems you have tried mostly everything. You might want to bring it into a detailer shop and see if they have anymore suggestions.

Try some buffing compound or a paint cleaner. Worse case scenario you can go over it lightly with some 2000 grit wet sandpaper and buff afterwards.

X2.................. thats what I used to get the residue off when I swapped out the SS emblem on the trunk lid. worked like a charm. the sratch on your hood looks like you will need to take it to an auto body place to fix that....probably too deep for an easy fix.
