I think a ZL1 should be looked at as an investment! An investment in you and what you want! I know I will feel (buyers remors / unbelievable excitement / panic / loss of resale value / gratitude) when I drive off the lot I always do with a big purchase.

To put this in perspective the ZL1 could be more than the cost of a customers first house and could also be less than 1/2 of what their current house is valued at now.

When the ZL1 came out in 1969 it was twice the normal Camaro price - History repeats!
I bet this time the initial allocations will all sell quickly unlike the ZL1s in 1969 that sat at dealerships. This time more people will know what a ZL1 is and know about the many performance updates - It's more than just a motor with dish hubcaps this time.

I thought is was going to be in the 80's. So I guess I have to say "no". I'm not over the shock yet. Me and my buddies are still laughing that I'm getting it for only 60. The car is incredible and this has to be the best deal EVER. And I'm not saying that I'm made of money either, but lets face it, if your getting one, you are one lucky dude.

In the end it's you paying the invoices/bills, so does it really matter how much you spend?

It's really up to the individual, some look at it as to much money for a car like that and others it don't bother, it's a matter of preference.

It’s not that I can’t afford the car, it’s the fact the car is a lot of money to be spending on, well, a car)
I am not necessarily a Camaro enthusiast more than a GM enthusiast, so it might hit me differently than some of the people who live and breathe Camaro,* but reality keeps settling in when our friends keep saying “what?! 60K for a Camaro? You can buy a BMW or a Mercedes for that. Heck you can even get a slightly used 911 for that” Then I have to go into my normal spiel about the technology in the suspension and the power and blah blah. It gets old let me tell you.
I guess it is still a perception (and a fact) that the Camaro is an affordable sports/muscle/GT car so it takes people back when they find out how much we are paying.* I think I am just going to start saying I am paying “slightly more than what our SS cost” That might be better.

So, Just curious if anyone else may be experiencing this type of situation?

Went for a nice long drive in my SS this weekend and felt like I owed someone some more money, cant imagine what it would be like in a ZL1.

i can afford a zl1, but i chose not to buy one. really to me i live in a large metropolitan city and rarely get an opportunity to put the pedal to the floor because there is just so much traffic around here.

nevertheless, 20k is a hefty premium for power that i cannot use 90% of the time. if i could, well, i'd be driving a zl1 (soon). i don't regret my decision at all, but that's just another perspective to throw in the mix.

I think that the 60k tag is just right for what you are getting. Granted you could build one (2SS) that has way more power and you could rip the pants off a ZR1 but spend how you want too. That is the great thing about this country we have a choice!!!

I don't know if anyone remembers the VW Phaeton, but it had Bentley like quality for a fraction of the price. It never really took off because of the VW badge. Hyundai is trying the same thing with the Hyundai Equus(Benz like luxury for a Hyundai price), but I am not sure how their sells are doing? To me the ZL1 is worth every penny, but then again I am not in that 1%. I don't have ivy league friends coming over the house or power lunches in my Armani suit. I don't think the GR-R argument is relevant, while the GT-R is new here, it has history in Japan. The GT-R is the Japanese Corvette, they just decided to bring it state side. I don't think there is anyone, in any income level that does not "get" the GT-R. Now a good argument would be the Japanese Turbo Monsters of the mid to late 90s. The RX-7, Supra, 3000GT VR4, and 300zx were priced up to 50K in the 90s Back then people paid that money for those, so if you got it why would you not pay the money for a true American Muscle Car now

Not all of the 1% have power lunches in Armani suits with IVY league friends.

No shock here at all. The car is a great value for the money. How much one spends, or should spend is purely a personal decision. What is right for me may not be right for somebody else.

Actually you couldn't "Rip the pants off of a ZR-1"....a ZL-1 maybe, a ZR-1, not gonna happen...

No of course not, I was just poking fun, however I would like to see the demographic that Chevy is marketing the ZL1 to. GM has said they don't expect Vett buyers to cross shop the ZL1. Me being a Camaro fanboy all my life it is a most have

It doesn't seem like that much money to me. Not because I'm rich, but because for the same money you can't get much of a Corvette. Or any kind of 911. And people don't have a difficult time justifying buying those (judging by how many I see every day).
BTW, I did cross-shop the Corvette Grand Sport. I wasn't so impressed. In fact I like my SS better or I would have picked up the Vette. And I didn't want to shell out for a Z06. I would be surprised if Vette sales didn't suffer a bit once ZL-1s are available. And prior to 2010, I was most defintely a Corvette person, not a Camaro person.
