This is the exact reason I chose to keep that opinion to myself but reading this morning prompted me to respond. Whether or not a company hasn't sued is on them. If you need that to belive it then so be it. I'm not going to try to beat my beliefs/opinions into you. That was my opinion on the matter and that's all. Just offering a different perspective so maybe all of yall ripping into Maryland Speed would lay off and this thread may die. Certainly doesn't appear it ever will though.

This thread unfortunately lost its way along time ago because the "I only buy american parts for my australian, canadian, mexican, chinese camaro" hypocrites just couldn't keep quiet. If I started a OBX vs whoever thread then the ASSumptions would have been welcomed. Im very happy with my OBX headers, as are countless others, period.

See it's not so much a China vs. USA debate. I think most of the people who buy these headers want it to be that...so they can continue to lean on the Camaro made in Canada BS. It is more a debate of if it okay to knock off an American company's products and sell cheap chinese producted imitations as your own for a 3rd the price. I personally have a lot of interest in Now I know in the rest of retail this practice if front upon..and the only the only reason it is marginally accepatble here is that they don't have a Kooks badge.

Obvioulsy there are more of us then "just a handful of the same 5-10 guys" that are looking for a midrange price header , I myself kept quiet for months after reading the same ole " for every 1 of you guys there are 6 that buy from me" BS. Obvioulsy not, or these companies would all be out of business and sued as they are american. I myself know plenty of owners that have various brands of headers, none of which were bought from maryland, and none have complained to date about there headers. I will enjoy my Stainless Powers I just purchased, and will use the saved money for the tune. So thanks again for great midrange header opinions guys, Keepem coming!

I don't think anyone is saying not to buy something made in China. It's not that at all. We all know the Camaro is made in Canada with parts sourced all over the world.
I think what they're saying is someone in China is making a identical copy of a product that someone else took a lot of time, money, engineering, and their own hard work to sell as their own. Let's say you spent the good part of a year writing the lyrics and music for an album. You record all the songs. You send your buddy a demo disc. And within three months, you hear one of your songs being played on the radio. You wouldn't be pissed? That's OK to do? Steal someone else's hard work, intellectual property and claim it as your own? Someone else makes money off of YOUR work? If OBX did copy this design and now sells it for half price because someone else did all the hard work, then yes, I would think that's morally repugnant, unethical, and in fact, criminal. Trying to work these things through the courts is much more difficult than if it were someone you were trying to prosecute in the U.S. alone. There's a whole other set of hoops and obstacles to go through involving a different country. I understand the OP's reason for trying to buy headers at a discount price. They do seem pricey and back in the day, the Hedman headers on my Chevelle (even adjusted for inflation) only cost a couple hundred bucks. Is it his responsibility to exhaust every avenue to determine if the product he's buying is not a ripoff of someone else's design? That seems to be the question. Typically, when one gets a good look at counterfeit merchandise, say shoes that say "Nike" , copies of those expensive purses and clothing brands, a fake Rolex, there's a reason why it's so cheap. Because it is of inferior quality and they are violating all kinds of laws. I'm not saying that a good pair of Headers can't be made for a good price. Doug Thorley makes a good header at a good price. But if someone willingly pays for a watch they KNOW is a cheap knock off of the authentic item, then yes, that's wrong in my opinion. But I don't shave any one else's face in the mirror but mine. They have to look at themselves. |

A couple of years ago my house was broken into and much was stolen. No doubt it was resold to someone else on the cheap. They got a great deal on some really nice stuff. They are also dirty pieces of filth as are the ones who ripped me off. The evidence I have seen makes it appear to me that OBX has ripped off Kooks. That alone is enough to make me steer well clear of them. If I am wrong and they did all their own research and just somehow managed to make the same headers then I am sorry. I will not take the chance on doing business with a thief. I would be more than happy to listen to an OBX representative on the subject. I'm not closed minded, just doing what appears to me to be right.
