Nine Ball, did you happen to note the mileage on the car you drove. Just a bit curious about break in.

Your numbers seem about in line with how this car will run in the heat. The LS3 is a great engine but trying to launch over 4000lbs race weight on stock 20" low profile rubber isn't going to be easy. There is a reason why GM has the only recorded 12 sec pass in this car.

I'm looking for 2010 Camaro owners specifically, not all Camaros. Are there a lot of 2010 owners on that site yet? If so, could you please post a link to this thread in there? Get them over here!

KarFan, I didn't note the mileage. I didn't really play with any of the electronics or gizmos, just turned the radio off, the A/C off, and the traction control off. I'm assuming the car has barely any miles on it. Yes, they do get quicker with some break-in miles.

You're absolutely right on that. This dyno (if typical) shows the SS is making quite a bit more than a G8 GT which has basically the same suspension plus about an extra hundred pounds of extra weight. Given that stock G8's are running about on par with this particular Camaro's best time, I'm thinking it's a pretty safe bet that we'll see much better numbers once a few more owners get their broken-in Camaros out to the strip. Nobody should be writing it off as a mid-13 second car until we know more. If that turns out to be the case and owners can't reliably get their cars within a half-second of the advertised times it will be yet another disaster of epic proportions for GM.

I missunderstood your post then, thought you were looking for some comparision tests against the 5th gen. I'll lurk around and see if anyone there has one.

If you do think about doing a comparison article against ls1's I'll even un-puss myself and volunteer up my bird for the test. Cam only with bolt ons, t-top car optioned out. You'd need to drive it for the best comparison, and if it breaks, its a good excuse for me to build it better.

The G8 GT photos you see in the article is my car. It is also bone stock, only a few weeks old. It went 13.86 @ 104 with a 1.9 60' time on the same day. Nearly 4 tenths slower, and 3 mph slower. So, same day, same track, the G8 GT did not run similar to the Camaro. We need to get away from comparing times posted elsewhere in the country, in different weather conditions, with these results. Same track, same day, or the comparison isn't very meaningful. Had the SS cut a 1.9 60' time like the G8 did, it would have gone at least 3 tenths quicker ET-wise, resulting in a 13.21 or so. That puts it over a half a second quicker than the G8 GT, on the same track, same day.

Yes, I'm looking for 2010 cars to arrive at the same track, same day, so we can prove or disprove that this particular orange SS is either slow, fast, or normal. Too many people who don't own one yet, or haven't raced one at the track yet, are here saying my driving sucks, and that these cars are much quicker. Come prove it!

FYI, my 2002 Firehawk Formula is still 100% stock other than some pretty brake rotors, with 11K miles on it. I'd be willing to bring it to the track to test during this date. I've never run the car before, but supposedly this model is the quickest factory 4th gen Firebird. It was rated at 345 hp from GM. Might be interesting to see how the two generations do, stock vs stock. Good idea!

I guess I misunderstood your post as well. I thought you were looking for 4th gens to compare with the 2010SS. Oh well.

I'd still drive out there just to watch if you do this, let us know!

1st gen Camaros are still considered "pony cars", just like Mustangs. These new retro-offerings from the big three are also pony cars. Muscle cars are more like the GTO and Chevelle, the larger cars. That is how the general automotive community defines them, anyways.

When it comes to "sport" I think of Vettes. Pony Car, Camaro. Muscle Car, Chevelle.

Nope.... I'll probably get a '11 MY Camaro. CGM 2SS/RS, kinda like yours

I'm still spending $ on my TBSS and travel monday-friday so I've only got enough time for 1 toy on the weekends :( .

I can't wait to see what numbers you get out of yours though!! Especially this winter .
