We have several browns, D. Tho it looks like you're just making a mess, they go well. Here are a few shots of our rooms...

Sorry about the mess. Things have been... Busy.

My mom is the one who's really got the knack. I didn't inherit it.

Poop brown with yellow/gold

Other wall...

Yellow/gold next to red accent

Another brown that looks like a melted frosty in the can.

I think I need professional help.

About 4 years ago after looking at a lot of paint samples under different lighting, I selected a yellow/gold paint for my living room. After seeing the walls painted, it wasn't quite what I was after. On a blank wall, the color is too bold and needs pictures to tone it down. The photo really doesn't capture the color.

Wanting a change, I again looked at a lot of paint samples, selected a color and picked up the paint. As I started painting, I was thinking - OMG, it looks like I'm smearing sh*t on the wall. It looks much better in the photo than in person
I almost always get an eggshell paint that is "off-white" (not pure white, but put a bit of cream color in it) for our walls. I put a little bit of tan color in our finished-basement walls (they have a hint of tan to keep it from looking like a hospital with the bright lights we have down there).

Off-white walls go with any decor and you can tone it down a bit with carpet, furnishings, paintings, etc. Also, it makes it much easier to sell a home if you have walls that are neutral like that. My dad was a real estate man and he taught me a few tricks like that.

Eggshell finish paint is also much easier to wash than a flat paint.

It's easy to sell because it gives people a blank canvas to start with.

We have zero white walls in our house. How boring. Sorry T, just too drab for me.

It's not drab at all if you have nice furniture, floors and pictures on the wall. You have to have some taste in art and decorating. I like the look. Oh, and light wall with a white ceiling make a room look much bigger. (another trick my dad taught me.)

One person's "boring and drab" is another person's elegant.

He was asking for opinions. I offered mine. You don't have to hate on it. I didn't say anything negative about your choices of decor.

To each their own.

I have beige, brown, maroon, and green on my walls. Bedroom is white, but painting is going to commence this weekend! Nevermind the lack of window coverings and closet doors... my remodeling never ends. Kinda like my modding!

Take it east Terry, did you notice I said "too drab for me"? I couldnt care less how you or your dad decorated the house. In sure your house looks extravagant, but to me, white walls are boing.

I agree! I like that!

... and I apologize. I had no intentions of insulting your decor. If it came off that way, it wasn't my intent.

No sweat. I'm just going to have to invite you and Kris for dinner sometime so you can see how not-boring it is here!
