Redline oil

I have a question, I am wanting to change my differential oil and my manual trans oil. I have been searching the site for what might be a good product to use and I see the following:

Read the manual
Royal Purple
Amsoil

How come I dont see a whole lot on Redline? In some of the vast amount of analysis on here it would seem Redline is the cats ass but I really dont see a whole lot of raving about it?

Cheers
K

Far as trans fluid would go Id use RedLine over RP if I had to do it again, and not cause of any reason but the ability to read it on the dip stick.

RP is clear on a stick, and very hard to read.

RL of course will be a nice red easy to see color.

And the only reason id use them instead now for trans fluid.

I changed gears in my 1970 Z-28 and rebuilt the posi, after installing it with "normal" gear lube with additive, it would snap a couple times each time I went around a corner. After 3 weeks of this a friend said to put Red Line in it. Long story short, problem gone as soon as it was done and no problems for over 6 years now. I'd use Red Line if I were you.

GM has been telling folks to use ATF fluid in the manual trans since the 3rd gens and the T5. Sounds odd but it what they say.

Now for the T5 many thought it was to thin, I was told to use straight 30W oil in it, if I wanted it to last and so I did but who knows on the newer stuff you got.

I used the Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF Dexron 3 based formula in my new Camaro manual transmission and it improved the synchronizer functioning especially when cold. A $7 Per quart upgrade No need for anything more than that IMHO.

Dave Coyle - The old school 12 bolt positraction rear in your '70 Camaro just needed another bottle of the GM posi additive. That is the way they are. You start with 1 bottle and if that does not stop the snapping you add the second bottle. The GM additive is best here. You can also use synthetic gear lube and you do not need the additives there. Either way, the 12 bolt rear end in that car will probably last longer than the both of us.

The old Muncie tranny works best with the original GL-4 rated "dino" based conventional gear lubes better due to the brass synchronizer rings used there. If you run synthetic gear lube in a Muncie it will be slightly noisier and the brass synchros do not like the synthetic lube. Leaks are not uncommon when using synthetic lube with old school seal technology. The new Camaro does not use that old school design synchro or seal design in the tranny so the ATF is the right choice there.

-Mark.

Have fluids to change diff and tranny. Redline and GM additive for diff and GM tranny fluid. No real specs for tranny fluid, so I went with GM part # for tranny. Probably can't go wrong with Redline though.

I went ahead and got the Redline 70W90 and the D4 Atf as recommended by Redline.

So we shall see as this is my first time using the Redline product except for water wetter, which I liked.
Cheers

Compare products specs, and tests. Amsoil is the best on the market. http://www.greatoil4less.com/default/FastFours.html

I have Redline in both the trans AND the rear diff. It's MUCH better than stock, smoothness has improved across all the gears. Less of that friction while highway cruising too. I'll be continuing to use Redline.

+1. I'd run it in the rear diff, but GM requires a "carbon-mod" diff fluid for the G8 LSD. :( Once I toss it for a TrueTrac, I'll swap to Redline.
