What happened when I installed my Halos.

Here is what happened today, I went to auto zone bought a ON OFF ON switch, tested the halos, and the HID's, everything worked. Came home installed them on my car, turned the HID's on. I was wiring the halo's making sure that no wires were touching each other. I was going to do 1 more test before I finished wiring them all together and putting the switch in the car. I ground the black cord, go to touch the red cord to the front bolt in the fuse box. I see some smoke in the headlights. Now the Halo's do not work. What did I do wrong? Are they permanently broken? How do I fix this problem? Everything worked before when I tested them outside of the car.

AAC Blue, White Halo's, and the Stock Rs Headlights, I have a feeling the headlights are fine, it is the Halo's. It seems like they shorted out but I am almost positive The only 2 wires that were touching were the ground (grounded), and the red (on the front screw in the fuse box)
