Hmmm If all you care about is going fast in a straight line, Then the Gt-500 has more potiental, But if you care about going fast in a straight line and around corners the camaro has more potiential. Don't get me wrong I think the 2010 Gt-500 will handle, but there is only so much you can do with 58% of the car's weight on the front wheels. So IMHO For the dragstripe the Gt-500 has the most potiential, but on a track the camaro SS has the most potiential (more balanced).

Hence the 2009 GT500s going for $41k and the 2009 Z's being had for the low 50's, I dont factor in the back seats in two door cars...I'm tall 6'4 wife is 6'0, 15 year old daughter is 5'11..what backseat..lol..I'm an alien and think as such (leaves the thread to the theme of "X-Files")

I get a kick out of these Mustang guys always having to convince themselves that
the Mustang is better. Walking around with a chip on their shoulder. I'm glad I drive an
SS and never have that problem.

I would agree with those statements 100%. However, a road course is made up of turns and straights, so what little the GT500 might lose in the corners, it would like make back up in the straights. Pretty even match, all things considered. If the track is made up of uneven surfaces in those turns, however, the Camaro would get my vote, hands down.

I get a kick out of it, too. It's almost as much fun as watching to all the die-hard GM guys find the absolute worst published numbers for a Mustang (GT or GT500) printed and/or posted on-line and using them as the standard example of what one can expect to get out of that car while taking the most optimistic numbers for the Camaro and using them for a direct comparison. It really keeps me rolling.

BTW, Chip is not on my shoulder, he's behind me in his Camaro trying desparately to keep up.

Garagelogic: IAW the original post - i think it weighs a lot on the person driving the car, some people just want a great stock car they don't even want to touch the engine with mods(GT500) while some will look for a car that they can devote themselves to make it unique and better than the rest in its class (SS modders)

having a warranty is a big deal for me, but if i had the $10k cash for a supercharger, i'd probably wouldn't be too worried about warranty and I'd go with the modded SS.

Its hard to say which one would actually perform better after price matching and such with power and suspension upgrades - they would both be great cars thats for sure, but i think the SS would stand out strictly because it'd be far from stock and have that 'special' quality.

and as for everyone else bashing on the OP for being a Mustang owner - show some respect. He's been on these boards longer than a lot of members, is respectful to everyone, and definitely has his share of VALID car knowledge. (not to mention a badass car)

Wow I heard this site had some narrow minded, blind eye devotion...but wow. A GT modified can make 500 RWHP with vortech, ATI, Paxton, and win. Why ? Weight to power. I think some of you here are forgeting just how heavy the Camero is... BTW, a GT is lighter than a GT500....

And that statement that a GT500 cannot hold 540+ at the wheels ???? LOL

Camaro beats mustang.
SS IS the best bang for the buck. why is their comparison?

Whoever spends damn near 60k for a GT500 is a diehard ford fan.

Gm fans..yeah we could do heavy modding up to 60k for a camaro. but msot will just go with corvette.

so props to your gt500. too bad the other 99% of mustangs will not want to pull up to a camaro. even the GT500 IMO. Those skinny tires cant even grip a launch!

this is a GT500kr
4.9 0-60 12.8 1/4 mile?
doesnt seem much better to me..

Because those are some nice made up facts there..

And before you say a GT500 KR...well thats not a GT500, and we know its waaaayyyy overpriced.
