Folks,
I have owned a few LS1 based cars. I usually put in a aftermarket MAF, K&N Air Filter, and Borla Exhaust, simple stuff. (Put a Jet Chip in my '98 - loved it) With the new Camaro I would like to wreck a perfectly good credit card and order the following GM performance parts: 1. Air box, Shorty Header and Exhaust Upgrade. This way the flow is better in and out (sounds like a bran commercial). So, I see on the forum each performace piece has a HP gain but them all together what do you think the average gain would be? Should the PCM be tuned to realize maximum effect? Plus what is the pros/cons of the shorty headers vs the long tube headers. All help is highly appreciated. ~Ryan Ordering a 2010 Camaro within 7-10 days .....uber excited! |

its all a guess really because they havnt been dyno'd but I would guess its going to yield 30hp. Getting a custom tune will always give you more HP even without addons.

I would highly recommend getting LT over shorties. You will see HP gains with shorties but it is minimal, especially once you factor in the cost of them. You should definitely get a tune to maximize the gains from the mods.

As far as shorties to longtubes .. really depends on what you want to do. Shorties will be able to support a LOT of hp to begin with (probably the stock manifolds will too). Longtubes will give you a little more but then you also have the hassel of passing inspection etc .. all in all if you aren't going to make this a track car, I say don't waste the money on shorties or longtubes ... do the rest of your exhaust and then do your other work. I plan on going with an catted xpipe / catback and some sort of Forced induction .. maybe magnacharger ...

as far as I know you cannot "chip" the ls1's, has to be a tune or hypertech, etc, but a tune intake and LT's with new exhaust would definately wake it up

Stick with a custom tune, as long as you have a good tuner in your area you will be happy.

as of right now the tvs is the only one availible. but its a great company so you cant go wrong. kenne bell is another awesome blower that id say will be out soon as well.
and i wouldnt waste my money on gm shortie headers. long tubes all day long especially when they are priced close together. |

I was under the assumption that long tube headers would not pass inspection because the cats would not work properly with them. I think the cats need to reach a certain temp to work properly and with long tubes they would not get hot enough, thus you'd fail inspection.
Anyone know more about this?
