My feeling is the companys with the cheapest fuel do not have the same cleaning agents as say Exxon,Shell,Chevron. If you only fill the tank rarely with cheap fuel probably okay, but I feel you are asking for loss of power (fuel pump, injectors) if every tank is cheap fuel. Just my 2 cents.

If an engine is designed for premium gas (90 octane or higher), using a lower-octane fuel will cause the engine's computer to adjust ignition timing to compensate, resulting in less power and lower fuel economy. However, if premium gas is recommended for your engine, then you may not notice any loss in fuel economy or only a small amount.

There are some who claim their engines run better on premium, but that is probably part placebo effect and partly to justify spending 20 cents or more per gallon. The American Petroleum Institute says "any fuel economy gains will be difficult to detect in daily driving."

You should use the type of gasoline that the manufacturer recommends for your engine. Anything more is just a waste of money.
Perfect explanation.

And, to answer the OP's question, if you can buy from HEB, Sams, WalMart, etc and get those low prices, I suggest you take advantage of that. I would if I had them near me.

I wish premium was only $4.11 around here. $4.33 yesterday, and the top story on the news this morning was "Gas prices go up overnight"...

Just go to www.toptiergas.com and read for yourself. Click on retailers.

While all gas may come out of the same terminal, it is not the same.
Each company puts in their own detergent additives that when tested
some meet the top tier standard and some DO NOT.

People like to blow smoke and give their own opinions
but stick to the facts.

Use a top tier 87. That will save you over wasting money on premium for a V-6. That same engine is used in hundreds of thousands of other cars and SUVs and runs just fine on 87. I guess if you needed to set a NHRA Super Stock record, you could eek out a bit more power on premium... but for daily driving, pointless. The V-8 is a different story, that engine's compression and calibration requires premium.

When I was a tech, of all the cars I did fuel system cleaning for clogged injectors... I remember hearing quite often - I always use Kroger gas. So... that tells me what to avoid. The better brands with just that little bit detergents can make the difference. On my many personal cars that I only use the better brands with, I have never needed an injector cleaning.

Would you buy "Bubba's High Faluten Sinthethic Oil" instead of Mobil One?

No cheap gas goes in my SS.

My buddy said that the difference between 87 and 91 is that 87 is the bottom of the barrel and The 91 is from the top?

Gas is gas is gas. All of them buy the same gas. The difference is the detergents that are added into the gas so you could just buy any gas and trough in Techron every 5-6 tanks and be in the same place. Actually Kroger gas probably has similar detergents as others.

I do however question the price, drive by the station and see what the actual price is, most likely he is getting a discount for buying groceries. Winn Dixie in southern states has a deal with shell, for every $50 in groceries (including liquor) you buy you get 5c off a tank of gas. In my area this deal is with Shell but they partner with different stations in other parts. Shell around my house is much more expensive than BP so I only go when the points are about to expire and let them build up until then... unless I'm going on a certain route where Shell is 30c less than the one I usually drive by. Always pisses me off that the Shell by my house is 30 more than any other station including other Shells. Anyway last month I used my Winn Dixie points to buy shell gas for $2.10 a gallon. The reciept showed $2.10 a gallon although the normal price was $4.29 a gallon.

By the way you know that that is advertising paid for by those gas retailers, you pay the fee to join the club and you become top tier. That is not independent research or proof of any kind. Most retailers use similar detergents some add a little extra for the marketing aspect of it.

Shell does long term tests against gas with no cleaners, you can't find that at any station, then puts the results on TV commercials.

The vast majority of refined gasoline is transported through underground pipelines which are fed by all the major refineries...it is impossible to seperate any brand by the time it gets to a distribution center...and no attempt is made to do so...even the refiners know its all the same...

I've yet to hear of a Kroger, Circle-K, or Wal-Mart petroleum processing plant anywhere in the U.S.....As said above, its all advertising/marketing gimmicks, owner/operator overhead expenses, that make the difference in prices...

I go with whichever gas station has the best night lighting, cleanest rest-rooms, most space at the pumps, good coffee and easiest driveways!...lol

VTX... no offense, but can you please explain how you cam across this "knowledge"? I work for an additive company (oil and fuel) and your answers are completely wrong! Everything in red is false. There are millions of dollars in testing done by my company alone in getting approvals and running benchmark testing every year on just fuel additives.
