Well said. I just read this entire thread, but wish I had started here. You pretty much summarized the whole thing in just two sentences.

To the OP, yeah, you may have gotten in too deep, but what's done is done. No point in looking anywhere but toward the future. It was a class act returning the car to the bank without damage or incident. A lot of people wouldn't do that. That alone tells me you are the type of person who will recover from this and come back stronger than ever. Develop a good plan, stay focused, and I bet you'll be back on your feet sooner than you think right now.

It's not the fuel prices that did him in, it's the fact that he had to pay $850 for rent and $635 for a car. He lived beyond his means. Simple. I just qualified for a 510k mortgage for my 3rd home, but would it be wise for me to buy a house that expensive? In case I lose my job, and my renters in my other properties, no way would I be able to swing it all, so I'm not doing it. I don't trust luck to pull me up if I get canned. This guy should have gone through the same train of thought before spending 39k on a V6 Camaro.

I guess not everybody has the same thought process, because then you wouldn't have to respond to these types of threads.....just sayin'

Some people sail through life without challenges or set backs. Others have a life full of ups and downs. In the end who enjoyed the better life? What's done is done, you seem like a decent sort, learn from it and get ready for the next ride up. It will come. Savior your experience not for what you lost, but for what you will learn. Good luck.

I had it happen many moons ago. Sh&t happens, you move on.

Get a new job, get your life together, get another Camaro at that point, if you choose.

It's just a car, brother. They will make more!

Sorry to hear about your situation. It is hard and the important thing is to know who to pick yourself up after a fall. I am sure there will be another camaro waiting once you are back up.

I would advice to stay in the forum and use your knowledge to help out new owners with tips and tricks. I just got a camaro two nights ago, my first American car, and know absolutely nothing about it. I am glad i found this forum.

Thanks to all of you who put in your supportive words and encouragements! Thanks to all who tried to defend me in the face of others who where not being very understanding or compassionate. I no longer have the financing paperwork, but the car price was about $36,000, and I financed it for 5 years. I had about one year of payments left to go on my Harley, I was not upside down on that at all; my Harley payments were about $215 a month at the time. With everybody texting and not paying attention anymore, I didnt want to get slammed into and die on my Harley out of the blue. Plus I knew the maintenance on the Harley would be pretty difficult and expensive for me in the near future. So I figured I would trade the Harley in for the Camaro, my target monthly payment was $525, but it was $110 more than I wanted; but it was too late to just walk away. I did make the vast majority of the payments on time with the Camaro, I just quickly fell behind around December. At this point for now, I am way too depressed to think about buying another car anytime soon, even a beater to just get around with. When I do have some money for a used car, and feel up to dealing with registration & insurance again, I will get it. Right now, I am making the best of things with my '99 Peterbilt; it is not easy to watch $400-500 (110-121 gallons) of my paycheck go into fuel for one trip. I daydream about building an engine that runs on magnets. Anyway, another Camaro OR Mercades OR new semi-truck OR whatever, is years down the road, I want to try and pay cash for it. I will probably, realistically just buy a little used halfway decent car and save up for a new fully loaded Kenworth truck; which tops out at $145,000 for the one I was looking at and specing out. Again. this wont be for another 12 years yet or so. I will check back on the forums every so often. I have to get some sleep, I have to drive the Pete out to Ohio in the morning. I also have to save up money to fix the A/C again, in the Peterbilt. Thats not cheap either, depending on whats wrong. Otherwise, its a much better running truck than it used to be. It's not a bad looking '99 Pete either with 1.2 million miles on it.

If we didn't get burned, none of us would have the sense to take our hands out of the fire. Some make bad buisness decisions, some make bad personal decisions, and some just have bum luck. Having gone through hell and made it through, I hope that the OP finds better luck in the future.
