I want exhaust cutouts

Because I don't want to be loud all the time (leave for work at 5am and neighbors bedroom window 3 feet from where my Camaro sits). Went to get them installed and found out that they can not do it unless they remove the cross braces under the car. I do not want to do this.

Anyone do this to a 'vert yet? If so, what did you use/do?

Honestly i have not done or seen it on a conv. My cutouts on my coupe are right behind the Cats at the end where they start coming together, and mine is loud and awesome =) mine are manual cutouts so i can go down and put the covers on them if need be, have not done that yet cause i love it so much haha.. was only 50$ in supplies and labor

Thanks... Becky (Rodgers Chevrolet) has my car right now and they were going to install them, but there is no place large enough to put them with all the bracing under there. Right now it seems my only options are a new exhaust (but I want to be quiet when I want) or remove the braces (ain't gonna happen).

cutouts on a vert *might* be more difficult than on the coupe. Only because the vert has cross bracing on the underside, which I would not recommend cutting/removing as you'll compromise the integrity of the frame.

Also, just so you know - cutouts are not loud, they are stupid loud. Most people wouldn't/don't drive around town with them open. Then again it depends where you install them.

you don't know most people...

and with electric cutouts, you don't have to open them all the way either

I'm assuming you still have all stock exhaust. Have you heard a car IN PERSON with exhaust cut outs? Or better yet ridden in one? They are stupid loud. If you have and you know what you are getting into, you can get this ARH brace and still install the cut outs where everyone else does. It gives you plenty of room.

If you haven't heard/ridden in a car with cut outs before I think you might like something like this better. It's the ZL1 exhaust with built in valves. It will go from very quiet to great sounding.

There's a few people in our club that Tiff belongs to that have cuttouts, so I'd guess she's already aware of just how loud they sound.

What I found more annoying was giant amount of drone when you drive with them open. I don't mind the loudness.

I was looking at putting noweeds on my car, I have one aftermarket brace(the one that goes further back) but I know I will probably need the front brace(the one right by the trans)

Yes I have heard the cutouts. I actually contacted the 1 vert member in the club that has cutouts to find out what he used & how it was done. He sent a pic and it was discovered that the place that did his, removed his braces and didn't tell him.

I only plan on opening them when I want to show off or to laugh at the guys faces who think I'm 'just a girl' and try messing with me.

<--them <--- me

Thanks SUX2BU for those ideas. I have been trying to find something that will work without just getting a new exhaust system since I don't want it loud most of the time. The ZL1 may be my answer if I can conrol the noise. I will have to research the aftermarket brace. Kinda scared to mess with the factory bracing.

I knew I could get help if I asked. Thanks guys!!

Tiff has heard mine, and her car is the reason for this post here.

Tiff, here is the results of my research so far. The ARH Brace will fit your car and is actually stiffer than the stock braces (it replaces two of ours). With this brace in place you can mount the cut-outs where they would typically go and you will be fine. If you buy this please let me know as I would like to see it with mine to see just how much I would hit it by. It looks really close for mine, but will hit without modification.

I am stuck in the situation that no body wants to relocate my current cutouts and I have only had one shop that was willing to build me a custom brace, but they want twice the cost of the already developed one (I understand the cost, but I'm cheap and hoping that there is a middle cost alternative I haven't found yet).

No, you don't but they sound crappy anything other than 100% open or 100% closed. Otherwise it just sounds like a leaky exhaust.

I have had mine on for a while. I rarely drive with them open. With headers and cutouts it insane. They are great for shows though.

I installed my own and have installed several sets on coupes. There are several options and I am sure you can fit them on the vert with the braces. I like SUX's brace. Looks cool!

Anyhow, I'd love to know what BeckyD charges for cutuouts with install. I have heard some people paying rediculas amounts to have them installed.

About the price of the perfomance exhaust installed. I was willing to pay for the convenience since the car was getting other things done to it there anyway.

I think I am going to go with the ARH brace & cutouts. But now I either have to have my car stay at Rodgers until the brace comes in or give up the car again later.

Thanks for the answer... oh wait... you didnt give me one.

I am just curious how much. I don't care WHY you decided to do it.

I charge people $500 including the cost of the cutouts... I want to know how fair I am being.
