Our SS runs in that 210 range.

Typically the fans on most vehicles will turn on in the 210-215 range, but each car is different. Anybody know what the turn on temp is on the Camaro?

Dealer told me 225ish. I just can't believe that. Considering the car likes to run around 210 degrees. Also the outside temp the day it overheated was 73 degrees. Today when it got to 226 degrees it was maybe 60 degrees out. So I am ruling out outside temp contributing to the problem. Heck I am wondering if the thermostat is sticking.

The heater core on these are prone to leaking as well. If you keep losing coolant and can't locate a leak I would make sure the passenger side floor isnt wet.

If your coolant was gone, you may have lost it pryor to storage. If it were the thermostat, you would over-heat very rapidly...Don't think thermostats these days are intermittent or go out slowly. I hope its not, but sounds like head gasket to me.
If the dealer doesn't drive it, it may not be bad enough to overheat just sitting, and the most troubling would be running rough...It would run rough from coolant in the combustion chamber...It would have to drastically overheat from loss of coolant before it would run rough, then you'd have major engine failure in a short time if you kept driving it....

Hope I'm wrong, hopefully its just the thermostat or something minor...good luck.

Did you store it with premium and Stabil in the tank. Or 87 and nothing.

87 after this many months would have lost some octane and would explain the sluggish feeling.

225 they told you is about right for the fans.

I'd fill the overflow tank to the full cold mark... when cold. Then after a few days of driving, let it sit overnight, recheck level, should still be at the full cold mark on the stick.

If you want to test your fans, turn the A/C on max A/C and recirc. The fans should be spinning good.

I doubt it's a head gasket, would've taken forever to burn enough coolant to make it overheat. plus, he'd notice the smoke. I had a vehicle that was burning coolant once. it didn't just smoke a little, it threw out huge clouds of white smoke.

if he's lucky it's just an air bubble. had that happen to me once ages ago. had a quickie lube place do an coolant flush for me. when I was heading home it just kept running hotter and hotter. I went back thinking they forgot to put coolant in it. turned out an air pocket got trapped behind the thermostat. apparently, in that situation the air doesn't get hot enough to open the thermostat. not sure what they did to fix it, but didn't take long.

ok just to let everyone I check the coolant and it is full. Was looking at the overflow reservoir dipstick. So the car is overheating with full coolant. 226 degrees at idle. 253 running.

like I posted above, it is possible an air bubble just got trapped behind the thermostat. but I'm not sure if current engine designs have made that impossible.

Still sounds high,...did the fan come on?...or a overheat warning light?

If a bubble...maybe run the heater/defroster wide open?...get the coolant moving...dunno...

Air bubble makes sense. Going to run it tommorow and if she gets a high temp again going to take a picture and show them. Also, GM stated 226 degrees in within spec. I am an engineer in the Coast Guard and I know all about within spec. I have a feeling this is going to be a run around deal.

Don't know why the techs at some dealers won't take the car for a drive...They drove mine around after a windshield replacement, and after servicing the a/c!...If they don't believe you, they gotta take it for a drive and see for themselves.
