Thanks derklug, I would say its just bad luck, since I have had a good 31 years of it & counting.

The dealer told me my car is a prior trade in as a result of a job loss and 2 car payments so he brought it back to avoid a repo....its a pretty depressing story and he took very good care of this car. Makes me glad I didnt go for a more expensive BMW or something which I was thinking of doing. WHen you get another Camaro there will be more used available, perhaps an SS!

I had about one year of payments left to go on my Harley, I was not upside down on that at all; my Harley payments were about $215 a month at the time. With everybody texting and not paying attention anymore, I didnt want to get slammed into and die on my Harley out of the blue. Plus I knew the maintenance on the Harley would be pretty difficult and expensive for me in the near future. So I figured I would trade the Harley in for the Camaro, my target monthly payment was $525, but it was $110 more than I wanted; but it was too late to just walk away. I did make the vast majority of the payments on time with the Camaro, I just quickly fell behind around December. At this point for now, I am way too depressed to think about buying another car anytime soon, even a beater to just get around with. When I do have some money for a used car, and feel up to dealing with registration & insurance again, I will get it. Right now, I am making the best of things with my '99 Peterbilt; it is not easy to watch $400-500 (110-121 gallons) of my paycheck go into fuel for one trip. I daydream about building an engine that runs on magnets. Anyway, another Camaro OR Mercades OR new semi-truck OR whatever, is years down the road, I want to try and pay cash for it. I will probably, realistically just buy a little used halfway decent car and save up for a new fully loaded Kenworth truck; which tops out at $145,000 for the one I was looking at and specing out. Again. this wont be for another 12 years yet or so. I will check back on the forums every so often. I have to get some sleep, I have to drive the Pete out to Ohio in the morning. I also have to save up money to fix the A/C again, in the Peterbilt. Thats not cheap either, depending on whats wrong. Otherwise, its a much better running truck than it used to be. It's not a bad looking '99 Pete either with 1.2 million miles on it.
Your story tugs at my heartstrings. This could happen to any of us. One poor decision can affect us for many years to come. I try to teach this to my boys, but they will have to make their own mistakes and live through the consequences. The key is that they (and you) will live through these consequences. It sounds like you have got your priorities back on the right track. Just keep going down this path and remember, you are not a bad person for making a poor decision, just human.

Just cause the bank takes the vehicle and sends it to auction, it doesn't wipe your debt on said vehicle. Like he said, this is the brutal truth.

You seriously paid $36,000 for a V-6 Camaro? So on top of just barely being able to skim buy on the payments, you grossly overpaid for the car. I will never understand why people buy things that they can barely afford.

In my 20's (and early 30's like the OP), I lived and bought things that were beyond my means.

Who at that age thinks about what would happen if they lost their job, got sick, or became disabled in a car accident, or something?

I know, I didn't. But, fortunately none of those things happened to me.

Even the OP might agree he could have made better decisions, but how many of us have done the same thing at certain times in our lives?

True. Just learn from your mistakes and move on life isn't over.

While getting the car repo'd sucks and the reasons behind it have many facets of bad I have a lot of respect for Chris on cowboying up and doing the right thing by handing everything over in good condition.
Dude screwed up by overpaying, but tried to make it as right as possible by not fighting the Repo man.
Get back on your feet, work hard and buy another Camaro (or whatever floats your boat) when the time and money situation is right.
