My 12 year old is the same way. He wants me to take him and pick him up from school in it so he can be seen in a "cool car". I'm Ok with that!

You know the first time it's in the driveway one of his friends will come blazing up on his Huffy, power slide into the driveway, the back tire catches a crack and flips his bike into your rear quarterpanel. He gets up and

Since it was on the passenger side you don't notice it for a few days. You walk around the rear to put gas in and , dent in your new toy.

Thats what happened to the wifes G5 on day 2.

My 13 yo daughter thinks since my car is due in around her birthday it should be her present. She will be lucky if I don't go find her a Yugo for her first car. O.K, that would be a bit harsh, maybe just a Gremlin.

DON'T let him drive it. It's too much car for a kid. Like 2010SSRSM6 said, get him a Yugo or a Gremlin. Something gutless and cheap.

O.o maybe you should just leave it in the garage and if they want to see it they can go in there

My brother used to have a Gremlin but it wasn't gutless. It had a 302 with a tunnel ram and 2 fours sitting on top and one racetrack told him not to bring it back until he put a wheelie bar on the back of it. It would get down the track pretty fast.......ugly as hell but would fly. He always won the money when he raced it and when he started it up you could hear it 3 miles away at my grandma's house. It sounded and ran great but again was the ugliest car he ever owned.

Edit: As far as the son's request....I would let it sit in the garage for a viewing the first few days and then keep it in the garage. Not a silly request for a boy though....I would expect it if I had a son.
