So, maybe it isn't the right place to be asking, but since we are all here anyways, why not?
![]() I previously had a 2011 1SS non-RS. I'm looking at getting 2012 2SS/RS Dealer is quoting MSRP ~$37k I would like to get down to at least $34k Q : How much "wiggle room" do the salespeople REALLY have? I have several strong leverage points against them including: - I bought the first car from the same sales guy at full MSRP - My immediate family has bought at least 4 cars from them in past 8 years - Extended family has business that has bought about 30 vans from them over past 10 yrs (Don't want to throw this in their face, but something to hold on them) - I have about $1,500 for a down payment. Seriously, I'm young. I hack for a living, I don't know sales. Any help? |

This is what the swap would entail removal of the entire dash on both cars it’s a long process about 5-6 hours to remove and replace the dash in each car.

Wow. What is it that requires the whole dash to be swapped?! If I remember correctly, isn't the gauge simply a plug-and-play module (aside from maybe dealership re-programming it)?

I did the Hud install on my 2010 but the entire dash needs to be removed if you wanted to add the 2010 Dash to your car if you only want to do the gauges and the steering wheel then then dash does NOT need to be removed. All you need is a GM dealership to reprogram the the computer and gauges.

Unless you plan on getting a 2012 when the 2013's come out, 34k (depending on the options) I believe is a bit below invoice. So they'd be eating the car at that price. I got mine way below invoice so they ate quite a bit of it (gm probably helps them out a little of course) but if you plan on getting one right now I doubt you'd be able to get it for 34k. If you do though then that's a great deal!! I would play hardball if you can! |

I have had both. 2012 is smaller by 3/8" more comfortable and works better in the auto x for inputs and control, imo

So buy the original style steering wheel, replace, then take car to dealership to re-program airbag. That simple right? or am I missing something.

The only thing I like better about the 10'/11' wheel is the center where it says CAMARO, that was stylin'. Why would they change that to a bowtie? :(

As far as I understand, that is all. However, finding the steering wheel and airbag is not going to be cheap. The lowest price I've seen yet for the airbag alone i something like $650. I'm hoping I can find someone who will trade even for my 2012 parts.

So, I just wrote to my dealership about switching out the steering wheel and gauges. Here's what he had to say.
"On today’s cars swapping an instrument panel cluster is nearly impossible due to the fact that the cluster is technically a module, which is VIN specific. As far as the steering wheel is concerned, swapping any part that is tied to the air bag system is a huge liability for us and I am going to politely decline to be involved with that process. The biggest concern for us is that both of these requests fall into an “uncharted territory” category for us and GM does not have any resources available to us if something were to not work out. We look forward to serving your future needs on your current vehicle." OK, how much truth is there to this? Will it void my warranty if i swap them out? And was there any programming needed for the gauges? If not, I could simply swap them out myself. |
