Is there anyway or learning new TPMS without the dealer?

Today I put 4 new wheels with 4 new TPMS (that were on a previous 2011 camaro) on my 2012 camaro. I know about going to the tire pressure screen and holding down menu, going into TPMS learning mode. I was just wondering if there was any other way of my car learning these TPMS without having to take it by the dealer and them charging me $$$ for labor.

I read the manual method, letting air out for 5 seconds... Some people say this works with 2012's, some say it doesn't can anyone confirm?

You kind of answered your own question.

I had thought that it needed a tool, but after some reading I found out about letting air out for 5 seconds. I just wanted someone to confirm if this works on 2012 models because I saw some people saying it did, and some saying it didn't.

Go to Discount Tire if there's one available in your area. No charge and it won't take long.

why would they put it in the manual if it didn't work. When u let the air out the tires the horn will blow to let u know its learn that tmps sensor. Just read the manual and you're good.

I tried the TPMS relearn procedure multiple times with my aftermarket wheels and I've never been able to get it to work. I've ALSO let the dealer have it, and for whatever reason, their scan tool won't make them match up to the ECU.

Just in case someone didn't know - I have to do this every time I swap my winter and summer sets. With the valve caps off, bring up the TPS menu, hit the reset button, starting at the left front start letting air out until the horn blows, then repeat on the right front, right rear and left rear. Not long after the horn blows for the left rear there will be a couple of extra horn sounds letting you know it completed.

I have summers and winters on my truck with tpms. I take it to the dealer. Takes 2 minutes and costs nothing.

I had this problem and so did my tire shop. I figured out a way around it though. You need to do the TPMS learn in an area without a lot of other tires around. Only have the 4 tires that are going to be mounted on your vehicle in the area, move the rest far away (or move your car far away from other cars with TPMS). When I do it this way it always works for me.

When you put the computer in learn mode it start listening to all of the TPMS signals in the area because it doesn't know which signals belong to the car yet. It was a common problem with GM vehicles that the computer would fill the buffer with the first 10 signals it locates and when the buffer is full it doesn't drop any of those signals until you start the test again. I guess the newer versions do a better job of cycling through all the available signals instead of grabbing the first 10 it senses. There may have been a TSB on this. This is the reason a tire shop would have a hell of a time reprogramming the TPMS, there are TONS of TPMS signals within range.

This is what works for me. Sometimes it's a hassle, because there are times I have to let 20 PSI out before the horn will chirp to indicate that a tire has been "registered," so I always make sure to do it when/ where I have refill air available. But, for me, this usually beats driving to a dealer.

I hate the relearn function since it takes a fine tire at 35 psi down to 15 psi! Did the procedure twice. Now the car thinks that its reference psi is 25 when its actually 35. I'm starting to loath car tech.
