Hate to see stuff like that...especially on this car. That kid should go to jail for this.
2 posts and referencing shunt?!? I'm not sure if that's awesome or disturbing, but funny none the less... |

And sure, I'm sure there are a few 16-17 year old kids that could probably outdrive most of the members here on a track, but the difference is the ratio of older members that would be stupid enough to drive like a bat out of hell on the open road is a lot lower than the ratio of younger members. And I don't particularly think the broad generalizations are appropriate. I'm 20, and I plan to buy a 2SS in a year or two. I do not plan to drive it like an idiot. I drive an '02 V6 fourth gen, and sure, I speed, but when I speed it's 10 or so MPH over the limit. I'm buying an SS because IMO it's a piece of history, and it has a lot of power that I may want ON A TRACK. Just my $.02.

Does the new Camaro have the latest "black box" technology? If so how long does it remember top speed and g force? I'll bet the lawyers that get involved in this case will know...

I never got in an accident, and only got 1 speeding ticket (going 70 in a 65 zone on the freeway ). I drove a V8 powered 1970 Cutlass with crappy tires and no safety equipment, driving aids, electronic nannies, etc. It was me and the machine. So yes, I was a somewhat skilled driver; careful and responsible too. Still, despite all that, I look back on that now years later and realized how inexperienced I was, and really I was just lucky that something truly scary wasn't thrown my way. Since then I've had a number of close calls (caused by stupid drivers) that I only made it through unharmed due to the experience of years and years and years of driving. Skill only takes you so far. There comes a point where you encounter something they didn't teach you in drivers ed, and you have to know immediately, without thought or hesitation, how you and your car have to work together to make it. You have about .01 seconds to do that. Wait until you're older, and as long as you're honest with yourself, you'll look back and realize how dangerous and amateur you were back then, despite all your skill. I know that again years from now I'll still look back to the age I am now and realize I wasn't that good, comparatively. Some things only come with experience.

I agree with all of you that 16 yr olds think they're the best drivers on the planet. Im 16, and my dad (2010 SS RS) is getting a Camaro soon (hopefully), we have talked about all the driving skills a car with that much power needs to be safe. I will be doing A LOT of practice with this car on small streets before I even get that car out on the open roads with other traffic. Im a pretty responsable kid, but I think that I will have a hard time avoiding speeding in this car. But after a while of being behind the weel in this car I will learn to control the urge to drive fast. I just wish that other teen drivers would be as responsable as me and spend many hours learning their cars, and maturing enough to drive safely. Just thought I would add another teen perspective by saying that I even think teens shouldnt be behind the weel of most cars

MY thoughts!
Quote:
On the current subject I have read all the comments of the last 8 pages and I want to give my input on a lot of different subjects discussed throughout this thread: I am 20 and have driven a 1993 Chevy Silverado Ext cab truck with the V8 5.7 in it since 16. For a Truck with 2wd and 350 horsepower it goes pretty fast. I have learned throughout my 4-5 years of driving that MOST teens are bad at driving. As much as its a joy to get our licenses at 16 legally here I wish we were more like Germany in terms of driving rules and being able to get a drivers license. They are much more stricter on everyone and you cant get a license until at least age 18. Anyhow, for the small percentage of "teen" drivers that can drive with care I am going to stand up for in some aspects because I am one of those safe drivers. I, personally am a Pilot and being one has made me a safer driver as being an pilot requires more precision and dicipline to getting a license to fly. Now there are idiots drivers in every age group and STATS show that people under 25 (esp teens) are most susceptible to getting in an accident. I personally have never been given a ticket and have never been in an accident. I went to a high school where mommy's and daddy's bought their teens BMW's, Cadillacs, and Lexus' for them and let them roam free. I agree with you all who say that these cars are WAY too much of a automobile to handle for new drivers and they are just spoiled and want to show off. I get it. ive been there recently. But just don't discredit drivers like me who actually obey the law. All of these raging adults I ask you to consider one thing: BEFORE you rant on a forum about how stupid teens are at driving and why they shouldn't be allowed out on the streets. Consider two things: Remember when you were a teen and first got the freedom to drive AND consider people under age 25, like me, that actually follow rules and drive with care. After contemplating those two things then choose to rant. We ALL break rules and speed and anyone who says they have not sped is a liar. Just THINK before you RANT. I apologize for the varying topics in my "thoughts and inputs" in this forum but I needed to express my two cents as everyone else has. Thanks so much for reading and hopefully we wont see another picture like the crash photos anytime soon.... Lets show them Challengers and Mustangs who is boss ... safely of course! ![]() DRIVE SAFE! |

Learning to drive in a Camaro SS with a responsible and wise adult instructor present = very good.
Mommy and daddy buying their spoiled little prince a Camaro SS for the 16th birthday and letting him go nuts with it = very bad.
