New Camaro owner gets on the street with his new toy and just has to prove its worth. Dusting a Challenger, driving 176 , and who know what else. My story continues with new Camaro owner running across a car of young teenagers and they also decide to race. New 2010 Camaro SS is way more car and he blows by and pulls in front with ease, but runs out of road or decides to slow it down. Big Brembo brakes slow camaro down in a really big hurry, to 25 MPH, but Ford in back does not have big Brembo brakes coupled with inexperienced driver and does not even stand a chance. The brake for the Ford is the tail end of a shiny new Camaro.

There are just too many things not adding up. I also find it hard, if not impossible to believe that this guy will get a second Camaro to trash and wreck before most even get their first. I also want to check my meter on that one.

Maybe my story is a fairy tale, but my guess is that if the truth be known, this is probably pretty close to what went down. I am almost positive Camaro driver did not realize the stopping power of the brakes in his machine and closed a gap too fast for any other car to respond to.

Please keep that in mind when driving and someone is on your tail. I assure you, you can stop much faster than they can.

WOW .... I think this pretty much sums it up. I have to say that anyone who just gets his/her brand new Camaro and goes out and does *cough* *cough* 176 mph should be shot any way. I would like to give you the benifit of the doubt and think you were on the track at the time, but somehow I doubt it. I stopped on this thread because I felt sorry for someone who hald lost their baby already, now I'm just pissed because I feel that someone was being careless and blameing a teenager ( who shouldn't have been on the road in the first place ! ).

Unfortunately we don't have the whole story, and most likely never will.

I drive for a living, have about a million and a half miles under my belt. That's nothing. I wouldn't think for a minute to take my new Camaro out and race it on the street. I can't wait to take it to the track though... we have two great tracks out here to race on, one you might have heard of , Infinion Raceway. Most of us have some sort of race track within a reasonable drive, there is no excuse to endanger the lives of inocent people out there!

As to getting another car in days ? That had better be , my wife and I have been waiting since Oct. 13th for our car and it doesn't go into production until this week ! How in the heck can you get a car, wreck it, and get a replacement already ??????? Good grief !!

I have to chime in on the teen driving thing as well, although I am on the fence a bit... I was a careful teen driver, and my first car ( that I bought ) was a 1967 Firebird 400. I did a few stupid things, but 99% of the time I was very careful, drive the speed limit, never raced on the street, and took a lot of teasing for not giving into peer pressure. But, I think I was like a lot of the teens that are posting on this forum, the exception to the rule. I am of the age now that my friends are now having children who are now coming of driving age. The first two have already had accedents, that's 2/2 , one was just a fender bender, the other has totaled two cars already ( and hit a pedestrian !!!!! ). So, It's not impossible for a teenager to drive repsonsibly, just unlikely... maybe the ones on the forum are more likely to doing some research, and a little more responsable....maybe. I hope so. My dad made me learn to drive in his F150, then his dump truck, so anything after that would be easy, before he would let me drive my moms '63 fairlane. I guess if you learn to parallel park a dumptruck a fairlane IS a piece of cake, lol.

The flip side of the teen driver thing for me is that after driving the Firechicken for about seven years while working on it ( I bough it when I was 17, a butt ugly primered p.o.s. ) I has just finished it, frame up hot rod project, had done all the work myself, including the paint, it was a real learning experience, and I learned from a lot of real craftsmen. Two days after completing the car I drove it to work because I had an appointment with an appraiser right after work. While I was at work it got stolen by a teen who thought it looked cool... who promtly rolled it while being chased by the police... it burst into flames and burnt to the ground.... When we went to court the kid had the nerve to flip me off !!! That was quite a few years ago, and I never saw a dime, even had to pay the towing and storage ... so I got screwed by this teen driver for his joy ride, no insurance, deadbeat unmployed parents.....

Sorry for the long rant ...

This story bothers me at several levels. First, if you were doing 176 mph the night before and only 20 hours after you got the car someone hit you the next day, that means "the night before" you must have just picked the thing up when you went out on this supposed 176 mph run. Do you have any idea how much open road you need to reach those speeds? Do you have that kind of road available? I doubt a local racetrack was open and available for you to do your "run" only a few hours after picking up a brand new car. And doing those kinds of speeds AT NIGHT at ANY location without appropriate lighting?? I'm sorry but if what you say is true you're a complete idiot. If you were in fact driving it that fast right away you were already in the process of destroying it; you were an accident looking for a place to happen and this guy who hit you just made it sooner rather than later.

Since the car comes from the factory with a limiter that prevents speeds above 158, am I to believe the first thing you did the night you got your car was pop the hood and disable the limiter so you could start thrashing a brand new car without properly breaking the engine in? Did you plan to even keep this car driving it like that? Even if you just did the factory limited top speed that's still insane on public roads, much less on public roads in the dark and just indicates a profound disregard and disrespect for not only other people and their lives and property, but for the car itself.

If you think you are being "cool" by claiming you drove that fast on public roads you are an absolute flaming idiot who is not only going to kill yourself but unfortunately you may very well kill other completely innocent people. What you are claiming is NOT cool; not now, not ever. If the insurance company happens to read this thread they'll either likely dramatically raise your rates or just drop you completely. They may even contact the police and have them read this thread since you've made a public confession and they know the identity of the car, they know who you are.

I'm truly sorry to see such a beautiful car destroyed but so much of your story just doesn't work that I don't feel sorry for you. I'm afraid I'm going to have the raise the BS flag on this one.

That 66 Camaro must have been worth a fortune. I would really loved to have seen that one! That is a very tragic loss as it had to be a one of a kind car. Seems all the Anniversary edxition Camaro's have been off by a year!

Do you know where he bought all the restoration parts. I might be interested in building one from scratch, a 66 Camaro that is!

Replacing his Camaro will not cost him 10 grand over MSRP if he has the patience to wait.

I wouldn't be so sure of that....there are a lot of things that don't add up here. The damage on the Camaro is that of an impact of at least 50 MPH and it looks to me like it is a residential area.

So let me get this straight.... "I was just putting along at 25 MPH when WHAMMM out of nowhere this Ford Escape hits me from behind." Ya RIGHT!

I too would love to see the accident report...cause unless it was the cop's first day on the job or perhaps on the planet I doubt he/she would be buying what this guy is selling.

Anyone know the age of the Camaro owner?

The pictures remind me of how my '97 Camaro looked after my accident. Long story short, my car was stopped and a lady rear ended me probably at about 40mph.

I don't know enough details to pass judgment, but I will say that it could happen. Maybe he was sitting at a stop sign in neutral (if a 6MT) and the teens were going too fast to stop. Residential area or not, I won't put it past people to travel at stupid speeds.

Aren't police reports open to the public?
I agree with many here, something is not right with this story.
Typically in most states, any police report is open to the public through the "freedom of information act" or rightly named "public record". This is after the case investigation is concluded and not before that. I am a Deputy in Texas and accidents are no longer called that, They are called crashes..

I have worked several crashes in the past and the only way to tell how fast someone was going at the time of the crash is to take measurements and then simple math and you get your speed which changes depending on the road surface. I have seen full size trucks hit sub compacts and do more damage to the truck then the car, so it really depends on so many different variables. I agree with everyone about this story having too too many holes and possibly exaggerations in it from the OP. I have worked as a Deputy for 12 years and 2 years here in Iraq and only 2 more months and I will be back in Texas for good.

Of course we aren't getting the whole story. I like how he was on to talk about the accident, but now that the rest of the story/theories are coming up....crickets.

I have to agree with the kids on here getting the car. There are some that are decent drivers and are fairly responsible. Unfortunately, the insurance industry feels ALL 16 yr old kids can't drive. The problem is you are all prone to bouts of stupidity. Its OK those of us who are older and wiser were.....guess what.... prone to bouts of stupidity.

Yeah, like maybe his PARENTS! It all begins and ends with the parents.

I agree with Marvb549, i dont think we are gettng the whole story, so i dont feel sorry for this guy at all, it just doesnt make sense or add up at all...

Also i'm 19,i drive a 06 vette andi have a 2ss on order and hope to get it any day now...most teenagers cannot drive worth a poo and think they are unstoppable, idk how many times ive seen another guy at a redlight and wanted to race me in the vette, kids that just get new cars and dont have to pay for them selves dont care, and even some that do pay for them their selves dont care, but just for you doubters out there that dont believe none of us care...i do care, very dearly about my vette and i will care just as much about my camaro and ive worked my ass off for what i have since i was 9 years old, but point is, not all teenagers are stupid and cant drive and dont care about nothing or anybody...
Just 99% of them. I went to high school with some kids that got brand new cars heck I even dated a girl that got a new Vette after she wrecked her rustang.I cherried and valued my 79 Z more than anything and she ran the piss out of her Vette/Rustang.
