I took my car in yesterday for the TSB on the rub marks. According to my paper they did the TSB but when i got home i could not see any tape. One of the ladies on the Facebook site said maybe they just did the first part and moved the screws. At any rate drove today with my top down for 15 min and the rub marks are back. I am thinking i will call and let the dealership know tomorrow but wait until mid April to see if i get a letter before letting them work on it again.

Thumbs down Re-Titled... No-It's NOT true

I received some seriously deflating news today...

the "new fix"/recall letter- was already performed on my car by the field reps last october when it was in for the 3rd top...

there is no new GM fix.

I've been offered a buy-back, which may be a victory for some...

But those who know me or my car, know thats roughly a $20k loss for me in mods/labor/custom work.

While I sincerely apprecaite the work of Kelly my rep (she sounded genuinely apologetic when speaking with me today,) this is very, very disheartening.

I've got one last shot at something, that I'm not gonna mention until I find out if its a go or not (don't want to blow up GM before I know for sure...)

But as for right now- I either accept a buy-back (im sure at a much depreciated rate) and lose a LOT of money, all the blood, sweat and tears I've poured into this car and start from scratch... with no cash....

Or I keep it, deal with the marks myself and I've got to assume, accept a voided warranty whereas if I decline a buy-back, I'd think that releases GM from their warranty liability.

What a sh!tty situation.

That really sucks. I to have lots of mods on my car. Guess I'm screwed to if I get top problems.

^^This?

Oh and not really an I told you so, but just an awareness of their strategy; they got the word out and they bought how much more time? See the strategy here? Outlast the warranties and complaints.

Guys this is not sarcasm or joking or paranoia, its the real deal. Their intent is to outlast the complaints. Extend where they can, oil a real squeaky wheel here and there, but do as little REAL fixing as possible. Its a bean counter thing. Like a lawyer looking at litigation, what's the most cost effective way to handle this? Settle or go to court? Hell even the army does casualty assessments (of course there its not money its lives).

Think about it, what their first line of defense? "Never heard of that must be something you are doing" Their second line of defense? "Its normal" Their third? "We did the TSB and you need to just wash off those rub marks". Fourth line of defense? GM rep stating, "Well we've done everything we can do for you" etc. You folks who ahve been through it have felt these steps. Some more than others, but it is the way GM wants it; long and drawn out.

Look at their latest; a "new" TSB which is just a grouping of old TSB's. But they would say. "Look a new TSB. We're really working for you".

BALONEY!

Bullet- you may be right... sux, but maybe right...

Nutt- THANX!!!! will forward it on...

Spoke to my rep again; I have a meeting with the Field Tech Wednesday at 9am to discuss some possible solutions, to include "experimental" fixes, another top replacement and warranty concerns...

I'm still (painfully) trying to remain optimistic; this nay be my last hope. Its gonna cost me 200 miles @ $4.50/gal and 8 hrs of vacation time ; but hopefully a face-to-face will get some results. Its at Starling Chevy- they've been great to me so far; so hopefully.. HOPEFULLY something good comes out.

As for transferring mods on a buy-back; without getting to in depth; this car represents far more than a vehicle for me, when given the opportunity to swap for a 2013, mods included; id prefer MY car... personal reasons. But that aside, GM would never perform the labor and i don't have the $$$ to start over or farm them out myself...

I got it; thanks!!!!

Been an overwhelming response from fellow vert owners ; I appreciate all the sentiment!!

I forwarded Nutt's info to my GM rep and service manager; my last call w GM today was reassuring; they seem willing to allow some "outside the box " thinking here; that's a huge step forward. There may be hope yet. Will find out Wednesday after my meeting w them all. (Fingers crossed!!!!)

Best of luck with the meeting. They need to give you a whole new top, frame, cloth and everything, with whatever changes they are incorporating in the new ones.

And for the rest of us they need to come up with a total fix to prevent the rub marks AND the structural problems like the 5th bow breaking and the tops pulling away from the body along the back edge. Some tape around the brackets just isn't going to do it.
