The t56 tail shaft still has the externally mounted shifter, which is part of the problem... There is too much flex causing the shifter to disengage the gears... If you use a free floating shifter with the T56 tail shaft housing then the shifter is up in the dash... Yes it is possible to build one of these with a shorter tail shaft housing... but I didn't want to wait another six months to a year for someone to decide to build it... I've been a year trying to get this thing going and I've always felt the shifter was just a touch too far forward anyways...

The gear ratio is the same as the ZL1... It's a closer ratio than the SS, and with my diff gear ratio, I'll be able to hit around 67 mph in first gear at 6800 rpm...and I'll be able to go 215 or so in 5th gear.... 220 if we stretch the rpm's out a bit...

This isn't a T56... It's a TR 6060

As for the top gear, this is a racing transmission, MPG is my last concern...

With my extended tailshaft housing, there is only a 3.5 inch difference in pivot point... The picture you posted shows the shifter to be forward of the tail shaft housing all together.... Sorry, it wont work...

and the one i just showed you in the pic was 4500 dollars not including the dual disc and scattershield

I am not talking about my modified shifter location I am talking the stock 4th gen f body location which is blocked off on mine because it would put it at the back of my seat. Which would probably be perfect for the 5th gen.

And look, I cant see it in the picture but if that is a tr6060 where is the fluid cooler connections?

Honestly to me it just looks like a 4th gen t56 hybrid with a ford tailshaft...

Motor mounts, Summit has them for 236 or something like that... They are made by prothane.... Very good quality parts...

Maybe so on the shaft... but it is 9310 material... with extra support bearings... and the guy that built it personally stands behind it... If it breaks, he wants it back to resolve the issue... I can't change the gemoetry that GM built in the car... As before, the motor is quite a bit further forward than it is in the 4th gen... and consequently so is the trans... it's something that has to be dealt with...

Cutting and rebuilding a console is little cost for actually having a car that is drive-able...

Back on topic....

We got the bell housing mounted this evening...

Tomorrow morning I have to notch the center console shifter opening in the trans tunnel...

We will then fit the trans onto the bell housing and get the pinion angles to match what we had prior to removing the factory cross member... We will then either fabricate a new cross member or modify the factory one to fit our needs.

Ok, what if i told you there was another way and showed you in pics etc?

And I still don't have an answer is this a fluid cooled trans like the trans you had?

what spline count is the output in the trans you bought?

what is the depth of the scattershield with block saver plate or if it is a quicktime one part number and i can get it from there website.

Are you dead set on that gear ratio, I have the same first 4 gear ratio in mine and i blow the tires off in first gear. Supposedly the 2.29 gear set is stronger and then you wouldnt have the same issue i am having with 150 more hp to the wheels

here is one of many links with useful info

http://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-tra...body-pics.html

are you sure your 5th gear is .84 not .80?

One at a time...

I've spent way too much money to back around a different way at this point, but there are others following this thread that may benefit from your info... So, please post it up...

Yes, it is a fluid cooled TR6060. We haven't moved the fittings over to the new trans yet, but we have verified the locations of each... They fit in the same spots as the factory trans...

The scatter shield is a QuickTime piece... It the same shield offered by RSG for the Transzilla... I don't have the measurements handy

I am hoping these gears will work for me even with the expected huge increase in power we are looking at... I have 17 inch wheels and Hoosier Slicks for the back... The factory final gear ratio is 3.45, mine is a 3.07.... With this trans gear set, it will allow us to get well off the line before having to shift....

Every gear except for sixth, and every shaft in the trans is 9310 material and the gears have a 22 degree helix cut.

Yes, 5th gear is .84

At the moment I do not remember the spline count on the output shaft..... I'll see if I can find it. Found it, the output shaft is a 31 spline unit and the chromoly yoke I have is for a 1350 Spicer ujoint
