for the noodles, you want to do a 7X9 setup. 7 cables of 9 spaghetti strands each.

Wouldn't it be a more stable arrangement to use 9 cables of 7 strands?

Or alternatively, a 7 cable bundle, with each cable consisting of 7 strands. Or would this cause too much of a drop in cross sectional area, and therefore strength?

I had it backwards. 9 cables of 7 strands each.

7X7 would work to, but it leaves more spaces unless you wind it in a tighter coil, which would defeat the purpose
