Exposed Carbon Fiber Hood Insert Care
Don't mess up the carbon fiber with paste waxes, read info from Les Stanford that they provide to their customers.
"...even though the carbon fiber looks smooth and glossy, there are small micro depressions where the clear coat has sunk to fill the space in the fiber weave. When waxing or polishing the carbon fiber panels, a wax that is black in color is recommended. If polish or wax dries white or to a light colored haze, the residue will fill the small depressions and it will be difficult to remove." So if you see white dots in the fiber, this is the cause. Perhaps it is best to either find a black polish, maybe one especially for carbon fiber, or don't polish at all. I have never cared for carbon fiber, motorcycles have had the stuff for years, maybe someone out there knows where to buy this type of polish. Anyway, FYI. |

Gm# 12377964 will keep it looking its best, cleaning off most contaminants without leaving any residue. the folks at gm were so kind to provide me some when one of my builds shared the spot light at a gm performance gathering, And I have been using it ever since. Figure if they use it on the the likes of "project X" and sorts... It was good enough for me.

Resins will break down in the sun, even if uv fortified resins are used. Some type of protection from uv breakdown and yellowing would be well worth your efforts as well. Not sure of best product for this though.

There is no problem waxing the carbon fiber with a good quality wax I have waxed the carbon fiber on my ZR1 Corvette numerous times and it looks great. I use CMagic wax products (same products that they use at the Corvette Museum) and they are great. A liquid wax and after it hazes, you spray a detail wax on it before buffing it off. You can buy CMagic on line. I am sure other products will work as well - but treat it just like the rest of the car and it will be fine. I am sure it will haze in the UV if you don't wax it - and GM recommends waxing it. It was the painted that they said was going to be a problem with wax.
